Thursday, May 16, 1:55 PM Quest Diagnostics (DGX +0.3%) moves to expand its lab business by acquiring the toxicology and clinical laboratory business of Concentra, a medical center operator owned by Humana (HUM). The business will be transitioned into DGX's national laboratory network of regional clinical and toxicology laboratories by the end of 2013. The the company also entered into a long-term agreement with Concentra to be its primary provider of workplace drug toxicology and clinical lab testing. Comment! [M&A, Healthcare]

Friday, April 12, 12:49 PM Lab Corp. (LH -1.8%) gives back yesterdays gains after being downgraded at WallachBeth Capital to Hold today on valuation. The stock was upgraded yesterday by Goldman, along with Quest Diagnostics (DGX -1.5%), on the sector's improving fundamentals. Thursday, April 11, 10:03 AM Goldman upgrades the Life Sciences Tools & Diagnostics sector to Attractive, but some individual names suffered as Mettler Toledo (MTD -2%) and Sigma-Aldrich (SIAL -1.1%) catch downgrades to Neutral from Buy. SIAL has "few levers to drive EBIT [as] long-term organic growth guidance of 4-6% is too high." Quest Diagnostics (DGX +3.5%) and LabCorp (LH +2%) are upgraded to Buy and Neutral respectively on the former's "untapped capital allocation potential and margin expansion" and the latter's ability to manage pricing pressure. Wednesday, January 16, 8:40 AM Quest Diagnostics (DGX) will take a charge of $89.5M after saying it plans to sell its HemoCue diagnostic products business. Quest will write off the ops, along with its OralDNA unit, which it sold in December. Quest will restate 2012 and 2011 to remove the units from continuing ops. Monday, December 31, 2012, 9:00 AM Not all diagnostics companies are worried at the prospect of the Supreme Court striking down patents on two cancer-related genes "owned" by Myriad (MYGN) in a decision that is due to come in 2013. Quest (DGX) says it could be a "positive development," as it would "open new opportunities to develop new testing services."
