Thursday 11:40 PM In the next step after Dish Network's (DISH) pre-emptive legal strike, Fox (NWS), NBC (CMCSA) and CBS have now all sued the satellite provider over its commercial-skipping "AutoHop" technology, claiming copyright and licensing violations. Subtle questions over who controls the skipping could dictate whether Dish faces the fate of ReplayTV: being sued out of existence.

- Wednesday 5:51 PM Dish Network (DISH) is partnering with web set-top box vendor Roku to offer a streaming service that features over 50 international channels, many of them from Asia. The service, offered to U.S. consumers (whether or not they're Dish TV subscribers), starts at $20/month. [Tech, Consumer]
- Wednesday 12:58 PM The FCC is exploring whether online video sites such as Hulu and YouTube (GOOG) should be governed by the same rules as traditional pay-TV providers. Any move in this direction could have huge implications, potentially giving video sites the right to carry channels content owners have been unwilling to license (and thus representing major new competition for traditional providers), while also requiring them to carry less popular content. - Wednesday 11:11 AM Disney (DIS -0.8%) CEO Robert Iger says the firm will pull the plug on programming if Dish Network's (DISH -1.0%) commercial-skipping service takes off as he dangles Dancing with the Stars as a potential high-profile casualty. While it's very early in the fight, the question of the survivability of commercial-laced TV programming has to be raised with the coming onslaught of original programming from players such as NetFlix, Amazon, Yahoo, Google, Hulu, and others that go lighter on the ads. - Tuesday 1:17 PM As Dish Network (DISH) tells the FCC to wait until at least 2016 for a 4G network launch, MetroPCS (PCS) and T-Mobile (DTEGY.PK) are calling for the agency to require Dish to sell half of its 40 MHz. of spectrum. Like others, the carriers think Dish will try to sell some or all of its spectrum to Verizon Wireless (VZ, VOD and/or AT&T (T), thereby putting smaller rivals at a disadvantage. [Tech, M&A]
