- Tuesday, May 7, 4:49 PM Demand Media (DMD): Q1 EPS of $0.09 beats by $0.01. Revenue ex-TAC of $95.2M (+15% Y/Y). (PR) Comment! [Earnings, Breaking News, Tech]
- Tuesday, March 19, 11:45 AM Often derided as an SEO-driven content farm, Demand Media (DMD +0.6%) is expanding into paid content by acquiring CreativeBug, a site that provides arts & crafts how-to lessons for an up-front or monthly fee. Demand claims CreativeBug will complement crafts-related content on its eHow site. AllThingsD's Peter Kafka thinks the deal's price tag is likely in the "low double-digit millions." Comment! [Tech, M&A]
- Tuesday, February 19, 4:48 PM More on Demand Media: Company says it's exploring the breakup of its media and domain name ops into separate, publicly-traded companies. Media sales +25% Y/Y (exc. TAC) in Q4 to $62.3M, domain name sales +10% to $34.5M. Page views +24% Y/Y on owned sites, -8% for network sites. Network ad prices +37% Y/Y. Demand expects Q1 revenue of $100M-$102M and EPS of $0.07-$0.08 vs. consensus of $95.9M and $0.10. Expects 2013 revenue of $435M-$443M and EPS of $0.39-$0.43 vs. consensus of $413.8M and $0.46. DMD +15.4% AH. CC at 5PM ET (webcast). (PR) Comment! [Tech, On the Move, Earnings]
- Tuesday, February 19, 4:37 PM Demand Media (DMD): Q4 EPS of $0.12 beats by $0.01. Total Revenue of $84.4M (+22% Y/Y) misses by $12.3M. Shares +17% AH. (PR) Comment! [Earnings, Breaking News, Tech, On the Move]
- Monday, January 7, 11:46 AM A couple of Internet acquisitions: 1) InterActiveCorp (IACI -2.8%) has acquired Tutor.com, a site that connects students with 2,500 online tutors for immediate sessions. 2) Demand Media (DMD -1.4%) has bought Name.com, a domain name registrar responsible for 1.5M registrations since '03. Demand is already the world's #2 registrar (behind VeriSign) via its eNom subsidiary, which works with resellers and partners (Name.com sells directly). Terms for both deals are undisclosed. Comment! [Tech, M&A]
- Tuesday, December 4, 2012, 10:13 AM InterActiveCorp (IACI -8.2%) and Demand Media (DMD -7.3%) dive after Goldman downgrades both to Sell on worries about rising search ad expenses due to competition for keywords that redirect users to search pages on their Ask.com and eHow sites. Also, concerns raised about possible Google policy changes (previous) restricting such practices, and Ask.com's traffic, something investors are already on edge over. Search accounts for 52% of IAC's revenue, and Demand depends heavily on Google traffic. AOL (AOL -3.7%) is also considered at risk to an extent. Comment! [Tech, On the Move, Quick Ideas]
- Monday, November 5, 2012, 5:07 PM Demand Media(DMD): Q3 EPS of $0.11 beats by $0.01. Revenue of $92.8M (+20% Y/Y) beats by $1M. (PR) Comment! [Earnings, Tech]

- Thursday, June 14, 2012, 5:37 PM Demand Media (DMD +4%) announces CFO Charles Hillard is stepping down as of August 16, and will become a Special Advisor to the company's board. Replacing him is treasurer/finance VP Mel Tang. Demand shares have risen 11% over the last two days. (previous) Comment! [Tech]
- Wednesday, June 13, 2012, 5:43 PM Demand Media (DMD +6.7%) caught a bid in afternoon trading after announcing it was the only applicant for 16 of the new domain name suffixes opened up by ICANN. The suffixes include .actor, .democrat, .republican, and .social. Demand also applied for ten suffixes that have other applicants, including .bar, .map, and .wow. Comment! [Tech, On the Move]
- Wednesday, May 16, 2012, 1:21 PM A number of Internet stocks are rallying yet again ahead of Facebook's IPO, as expectations grow for a strong debut. GOOG +2.6%. YELP +2.5%. P +2.7%. RENN +4.3%. QPSA +2.7%. DMD +6.3%. LNKD +1.8%. However, top Facebook customer Zynga (ZNGA -2.7%) is giving back some of yesterday's gains. 8 Comments [Tech, On the Move]
- Wednesday, May 9, 2012, 11:15 AM Demand Media (DMD) shares well in demand and surging 17.5% after its rather positive Q1 report yesterday, when it increased its 2012 guidance. The results suggests Demand may have overcome, for now, Google's moves to tighten its search filters and weed out some of Demand's content, which Google 'aint so impressed with. Comment! [Earnings, On the Move]
- Tuesday, May 8, 2012, 4:36 PM Demand Media (DMD): Q1 EPS of $0.07 beats by $0.02.. Revenue of $86.2M (+8% Y/Y) beats by $6.5M. Content & media revenue +4%, registrar revenue +17%. Company expects Q2 revenue of $89M-$91M and EPS of $0.07-$0.08, largely above consensus of $83.3M and $0.07. Expects 2012 revenue of $361M-$367M and EPS of $0.33-$0.35, above consensus of $340.6M and $0.30. DMD +24.5% AH. (PR) Comment! [Tech, Earnings, On the Move]
- Thursday, May 3, 2012, 1:22 PM YouTube (GOOG) is committing $200M in marketing support via its site and Google's display ad network for the 100 premium channels it has already provided $100M in funding for. Though YouTube doesn't expect its efforts, part of a broader push to increase its professional offerings, to produce a full TV alternative, it does see the content delivering higher ad rates and further boosting its monthly usage growth. Demand Media (DMD) is among YouTube's partners. Comment! [Tech]
