I think the iphone will have more staying power than the RAZR, it offers a lot more. Sure hope the instinct takes a bite out of iPhone though.. Reply

Actually, Yourope is right on. At the end of the day, iPhone will go the way of other fad phones such as the Razr. Its just a matter of time. Only Apple enthusiasts are buying them and the European has already softened considerably. As for the Raw Data Report on Sprint, its simply wrong. Didn't they teach you that the smaller the sampling, the less reliiable the data? For the record, the Samsung m520 Lumina has been #1 selling phone by SKU at Sprint for the last 14 weeks. Its a Stereo music phone. Of course, if you add all four LG Rumor SKUs together, that phone outsells even the samsung m520 by a large margin. If course the Rumor is a messaging device only. As for Nokia, do they even sell phones in the US? lol Reply

130,000 people have registered with O2 for 3G iPhone updates compared with 35,000 for the original iPhone, so it appears this model will sell much better in Europe. If the carriers/makers agree with Yourope that the iPhone is such a dud, why are they trying "kill" it? They should ignore it, and it will go away, right? Reply

iPhone killers?? Wow! Americans have been able to produce a cellphone! First Razr and now iPhone!

iPhone has 0,5 per cent (!) of the worldwide cell phone market and it's declining rapidly (600.000 sold worldwide this quarter, down from 2 million). Virtually none sold in Europe. No need to kill that product. It shall kill itself with its substandard 2 Mpx camera and the price of $600 as there are much better products with 5 Mpx cameras for $1.

If iPhone had been launched 2004 it just might have been competitive in Europe. Now it is unfortunately going the same way as Razr.

I wonder about the veracity of the research. The Nokia N95 is listed as one of the favorite phones of Alltel subscribers. But the N95 doesn't work on Alltel's network, so either the users are buying them to use on another network (bad news for Alltel), the users just like a nice-looking useless toy, or the research is incorrect. All mobile phones are subsidized carriers, not just the iPhone. Reply

That's because iPhones are sold in the US only by AT&T. iPhone isn't a choice in the companies surveyed above. Also, the cost of the new iPhone is subsidized by AT&T monthly fees. Reply

I noticed you gave Apple a very minor mention.

Apple may sell 30 million phones in 2009 (Morgan Stanley, this morning). Gene Munster: 45 million.

Plus, we've seen iPhone 'killers' come and go...

Wake up and smell the starbucks.

Nextel Better Off On Its Own? [view article]
Sprint was bad before Nextel and had spotty coverage because they didn't invest enough in their CDMA network. Sprint could have integrated iDEN as a PTT-only network but its hybrid phones are problematic and lack key features not to mention many people would have only PTT in certain spots with the hybrid footprint. This all comes from ignoring the Nextel brand and alienating its customers. Sprint is not liked by Nextel customers and the merger with Sprint was unwelcome. As for me I hate Sprint for too many reasons and wish Sprint would sell or spin off Nextel ASAP or itself be bought by a more sensible group of people. Reply

Deutsche Treat - Cramer's Lightning Round (5/6/08) [view article]
Crammer caught onto NAT 3 days after earnings. Here is some real information 2 days before earnings.

NAT is a great company but here is one with better earnings and better upside (its parent company is TK which is the largest spot market vessel management company in the world)

    TNK presentation

    Q1 EPS = $0.76
    YRLY EPS = $3.04

The company just bought two new Suezmax tankers on credit and you can see that the profits will go up based upon this purchase and the currently highly spot rates. Download the guidance chart from TNK directly.

link to divided payout schedule (guidance chart) based upon spot rates
    www.teekaytankers.com/...
download 48kb 3 page file and look at dividend spreadsheet.

Here is the data you need to do the calculations - this data was acquired from a professional source confirmed to be accurate with TNK.

    04/04/08
    VLCC $95,263
    SUEZMAX $60,471
    AfraMAX $41,447

I watch and record the weekly spot averages for all tanker types.
The above list is the Average tanker daily spot rate as of the end of Q1. Q2 is higher already.

Here is the latest average including every week from Jan 1 to today.
    05/02/08
    VLCC $96,718
    SUEZMAN $72,152
    AFRAMAX $46,545

For those of you too lazy to download this critical guidance here is the brief summary.

    Current Q1 spot rates

    20,000 = dividend $1.64
    25,000 = dividend $1.99
    30,000 = dividend $2.34
    35,000 = dividend $2.69
    40,000 = dividend $3.04 ***** here we are

Download the full chart to see how the two new suezmax tankers effect income (its dramatic).

Asking Cramer to consider all the facts about a company or sector is like explaining the facts of gravity to Wily Coyote or asking him to stop buying stuff from Acme. If you were successful, the show would be no fun. And, remember, it's called "Lightning Round," not "Thoughtful Opinion."
The only reason to pay any attention to Cramer is because he can occasionally move small stocks, creating buying or shorting opportunities to sheer some fleece off the sheep.

You are both right, but remember Mr. Cramer (a very smart guy in his own right) is now in "Show Biz", and thus must pander to the dimwits of the modern American masses. Its a very profitable formula, I wish he would "go public". Reply
