    Nextel Better Off On Its Own? [view article]
    Don't be too optimistic that Sprint will be able to spin off Nextel. Many, Many Sprint sites were integrated into Nextel sites meaning that Sprint and Nextel antennas share a common rack and the Sprint telecom equipment was installed inside Nextel equipment shelters. In layman's terms -- the gear that makes the cellular sites work is too mixed together to separate into two separate cellular sites that two different companies could separately operate. Sprint and Nextel's integration problems were well known, separating them again will be even messier. Reply

    I agree this guy cramer is wild and he just throws out stuff without convincing or compelling reasons. I mean how sensible is it to just say"buy" or "sell"?? Reply

    It's hopeless - Sprint should have just bitten the bullet and dumped iDen while keeping the Nextel customers and spectrum years ago. But I guess that would have been too obvious to Wall Street that they WAY OVERPAID. I can't imagine now, with CDMA so mature anyone else would keep iDen running. It's worth almost nothing -- too bad for those guys in Latin America that made something useful in spite of the mess here -- get a truck and see how Motorola gives you on trade. Reply

    As a former customer, someone needs to buy this company and break it up for its parts. The customer service is horrid and coverage is terrible.
    As an investor, anytime it bounces up, I buy puts.

    Cramer;
    While your show is amusing much like other comedy shows, you should really consider doing just a little research into companies before you scream "Buy!" or "Sell!". First I would recommend that you research the definition of what a "telco" company is (it's a telephone company):
    education.yahoo.com/re...
    2nd, before you recommend any stock, you should do just a tiny bit of research so that you know even the basic fact of what sector or industry a company is in. China Digital (STV) is not a telephone company. Before you say it was a typo, and that you really meant to say "telecom", China Digital (STV) is not a telecom either. (Btw, you recommended AT&T, Verizon, and Deutsche Telekom above, which are actual "telco" and "telecom" companies, although you say "telco" companies are risky). China Digital is in the tech product/software sector: their primary product market is developing and selling conditional-access smartcards and associated set-top boxes, in which market they currently control 52% market share in China. The 2nd market they recently expanded into is development and sales of PC cards which allow PC's to receive, decode, and play HDTV subscription TV channels. They have several other market products in R&D that they will be expanding their business with in the near future. China Digital has consistently exceeding earnings estimates and issued positive forward outlook guidance on every earnings report since the STV IPO, with very high revenue and net income growth year over year and quarter over quarter. Not to mention the strategic partnerships China Digital has formed with Intel, Microsoft, Panasonic, and other leading USA companies. Hardly a company that any investor doing just a little research would call "risky". While your show is entertaining, for serious and successful stock-investing I rely on indepth research into companies, investment planning, confidence, and patience.

    If Nextel is so great, maybe Motorola should buy it. They built the network and could probably pick it up for next to nothing. Reply

    Sprint is already rolling the Push to Talk over to it's cdma platform. It's up and it works. DT can make a play for a spun Nextel but they cannot have its spectrum holdings...Sprint will not let go of one the only jewels left from Nextel (2.5 GHZ wimax spectrum) Reply

    Agree that NII HOldings is proving that a strong focus on differentiation with push to talk and strong focus on profitable customers equals success. Sprint has simultaneously screwed up marketing and operations to give poor service with poor positioning. Reply

    The 'Doomsday' senario that you describe would be horrible for Sprint, it's employees, the wireless industry and the country. Its safe to say this will never happen the way you predict, thank God. I suggest that you stick to stock picking, stay long on Sprint and try writing about a subject you know something about. Reply

    The big question is whether the Board of Directors will do the right thing (accept a buyout) for the shareholders, or, will they insist on going it alone so that they can ensure that Kansas City keeps 13k-14k Sprint employees pumping $$ into the KC economy. This Board has a history of not putting shareholder interests first. I am guessing that the only deal that will materialize will be one that gives this Board continued control. That would be a major disappointment and financial loss for those of us stockholders who want the company to unlock the potential of its prodigious assets. Reply
