Audio tech providers Dolby (DLB -6.1%) and (especially) DTS (DTSI -25.3%) are getting hammered after posting their calendar Q3 reports (I, II). Citing a "softening near-term business environment," DTS is guiding for 2012 revenue of $100M-$105M and 2013 revenue of $140M-$150M, below a consensus of $110.1M and $160.2M. Dolby beat estimates thanks to smartphone/tablet deals and provided in-line FQ1 and FY13 guidance. But it mentioned on its earnings call FQ4 PC sales fell 6% Y/Y, and consumer electronics sales 10%.

U.S. and European solar energy companies have been downsizing for a while, but NYT reports China's solar firms are hurting too because the Chinese market is saturated by panels that can’t be exported. The government could subsidize more solar installations at home, but the cost of solar remains heavily discounted to coal-fired electricity, which means any subsidy would balloon enormously.

DTSI (DTSI) agrees to acquire SRS Labs (SRSL) in a cash-and-stock transaction valued at $9.50/, or ~$148M in aggregate equity value. The deal brings together DTSI's suite of high-definition audio solutions and SRSL's range of audio processing technologies. SRSL shares halted.

Audio technology developer DTS (DTSI) falls 15.7% after reporting Q2 revenue of $20.6M (+18% Y/Y) and EPS of $0.24, below a consensus of $21.8M and $0.25. Citing macro concerns and soft consumer spending, the company is now guiding for 2011 revenue of $95M-$100M and EPS of $1.30-$1.42, below a consensus of $104M and $1.48.
