- Tuesday, October 30, 2012, 4:47 PM More on Electronic Arts' FQ2: FQ3 guidance is for revenue of $1.25B-$1.35B and EPS of $0.50-$0.60, below a consensus of $1.39B and $0.71. FY13 guidance is in-line, but that warrants scrutiny in light of the FQ3 forecast. 7.4M FIFA 13 unit sales (exc. mobile), 2M Battlefield 3 Premium subscriptions. $108M in shares repurchased. 30M registered users for Origin online game platform. Mobile/handheld game revenue +29% Q/Q and +45% Y/Y to $115M, 11% of total. CC at 5PM ET (webcast). (PR) Comment! [Tech, Earnings]
- Tuesday, October 30, 2012, 4:21 PM Electronic Arts (EA): Q3 EPS of $0.15 beats by $0.05. Non-GAAP Net Revenue of $1.08B (+4.4% Y/Y) in-line. (PR) Comment! [Earnings, Tech]

[Earnings]
- Monday, October 29, 2012, 6:13 PM Electronic Arts (EA) is pushing back the release of the next version of its cult SimCity franchise to March 2013. The buzz surrounding the new SimCity, which will emphasize multiplayer/social gaming, has been mostly positive, thanks in part to some well-received trailer videos. Comment! [Tech]
- Monday, October 29, 2012, 5:35 PM Notable earnings after Tuesday’s close: ACPW, BNNY, CAR, CBG, CENX, DVA, DWA, EA, EQIX, FISV, GERN, GNW, HTGC, ITRI, IVR, JDSU, KIM, LGCY, MIPS, MWA, OKE, OKS, ONXX, PPO,PSMT, QEP, QUIK, SIMG, SSW, STR, STX, TRIP, TTWO, WMB, WPZ, WU Comment! [Earnings]
- Friday, October 26, 2012, 11:48 AM Electronic Arts (EA -2.5%) slips after receiving a downgrade to Sector Perform from Pac Crest. Following checks, the firm thinks EA is having a slow year (ed: you could say the same for the whole industry), and has decided to cut estimates below consensus. EA reports on Tuesday. Comment! [Tech, On the Move, Quick Ideas]
- Friday, October 12, 2012, 1:17 PM Another month, another round of dismal data from NPD about retail U.S. video game sales. Game console sales fell 39% Y/Y in September, the research firm estimates, while software sales fell 18%. One bright spot for Electronic Arts (EA): Madden NFL 13 unit sales were 11% higher than the year-ago sales of its predecessor (previous). Sterne Agee thinks new video game sales will fall just 5% in October, as new titles provide a lift. Comment! [Tech]
- Wednesday, October 3, 2012, 2:13 PM Electronic Arts' (EA +0.6%) sports franchises are giving the company a lift as it struggles with a weak console gaming market. The company boasts it sold over 4.5M copies of FIFA Soccer 13 in its first 5 days of availability, supposedly making it the "biggest video game launch of 2012" thus far. FIFA 13, popular in the U.K. and other international markets, launched to strong reviews on Sep. 25. (Madden NFL 13 sales) Comment! [Tech]
- Wednesday, September 26, 2012, 2:41 PM Electronic Arts (EA +0.4%) has bought online game studio ESN for an undisclosed sum. ESN is responsible for Planet, a popular framework for developing online games, and has already collaborated with EA to develop the Battlelog social networking service for EA's popular Battlefield 3. TechCrunch speculates EA could use ESN's solutions to offer online gaming services for 3rd-party developers, in addition to its own titles. (BofA downgrade) Comment! [Tech, M&A]
- Wednesday, September 26, 2012, 11:49 AM Electronic Arts (EA -1.3%) is hit by a downgrade to Neutral from BofA. The firm notes shares as up 15% from their July 31 low (better than the S&P's 5%), in spite of concerns about the performance of Medal of Honor Warfighter, which arrives on Oct. 23. It thinks Medal of Honor sales could be hurt by a "very crowded holiday quarter" that will also see refreshes for the Halo, Call of Duty, and Assassin's Creed franchises. 1 Comment [Tech, On the Move]
- Tuesday, September 25, 2012, 1:43 PM Game developers sell off following a report pay-TV providers are looking to offer console-quality cloud gaming services in 2013-2014. EA -3.5%. ATVI -2.3%. TTWO -1.4%. THQI -2.4%. If these services take off (a big if, given the challenges others have faced), they'd almost certainly rely on games from top developers. But there could also be more competition from social/casual games, and less favorable revenue splits. 2 Comments [Tech, On the Move]
- Tuesday, September 25, 2012, 10:26 AM Electronic Arts' (EA) PopCap mobile games unit, acquired last year for $750M-$1.3B (depending on payouts), has laid off 96 Dublin workers on top of the 50 employees it let go of last month. PopCap has struggled to cope with the mobile gaming market's shift towards free-to-play titles. However, EA's overall mobile sales have been healthy. Comment! [Tech]
- Tuesday, September 25, 2012, 3:53 AM AT&T (T), Verizon (VZ), Comcast (CMCSA) and Time Warner Cable (TWC) are looking to provide heavy duty video games - such as those from EA - to TVs over their cable infrastructure, Bloomberg reports. The move would provide another major threat to console makers such as Sony (SNE) and Microsoft (MSFT), adding to that from smartphone games. However, operators still need to get the technology right. 9 Comments [Tech, Consumer, Top Stories]
- Tuesday, September 18, 2012, 4:42 PM The co-founders of Electronic Arts' (EA) BioWare game studio have announced they're leaving the company and retiring from game development. BioWare, acquired by EA in '07, has been responsible for hit franchises such as Mass Effect and Dragon Age, as well as the disappointing Star Wars: The Old Republic. Comment! [Tech, M&A]
- Friday, September 14, 2012, 4:50 PM Zynga's (ZNGA) legal battle with Electronic Arts (EA) just got personal. While requesting a judge strike down parts of EA's suit against the company, Zynga accuses EA of trying to make Zynga agree to a non-poaching deal (potentially in violation of antitrust laws), and claims EA's CEO has been feeling heat over Zynga's success. Zynga poached high-profile EA execs last year, but they recently left, and EA is now returning the favor. EA (like many other developers) accuses Zynga of copying one of its games. 5 Comments [Tech]
- Thursday, September 13, 2012, 4:16 PM Electronic Arts (EA) has reportedly hired several Zynga (ZNGA) employees as the latter group jumps ship in the face of a crumbling stock price. Also, EA's HR chief claims to be seeing a big uptick in resumes from Zynga workers. The news is thick with irony, considering Zynga is only a year removed from poaching senior EA execs (who recently left). To add insult to injury, EA is suing Zynga for copyright infringement over The Ville. Comment! [Tech]

PandaBearish: Not to mention, with Avengers' success and other upcoming Marvell films, ATVI owns rights to the comics. -
PandaBearish: EA has no cash cows. SWTOR was a huge flop that never broke 2 million subscribers and D3's cash auction house is $$ in the bank for ATVI
