- Wednesday, May 8, 5:42 PM Activision (ATVI) -6.3% AH after providing light guidance to go with a Q1 beat. A 1.3M Q/Q drop in World of Warcraft subs to 8.3M is likely troubling investors. Online subscription sales (WoW and Call of Duty Elite) fell 9% Y/Y made up 28% of revenue, down from Q1 2012's 43%. But console game sales +85% and 31% of revenue (23% prior). PC game sales (led by StarCraft II and Diablo III) +384% and 15% of revenue (4% prior), and Other sales (inc. handheld/mobile and Skylanders toys) +39% and still 19% of revenue. Digital channels made up 53% of sales vs. 44% a year ago. Electronic Arts (EA) -1.4% after rising 17.1% thanks to its FQ4 report. (PR) Comment! [Tech, Earnings]
- Tuesday, May 7, 5:52 PM Electronic Arts (EA) now +7.7% AH as better-than-feared FY14 guidance overshadows an FQ4 EPS miss. Activision (ATVI) +1.1%. EA's "Digital' revenue (inc. downloads, subscriptions, ad sales, etc.) rose 45% Y/Y to $618M, while packaged goods/other revenue fell 25% to $396M. Battlefield 3 Premium subs rose by 600K to 3.5M. The Simpsons: Tapped Out produced almost $10M in net revenue in March; Real Racing 3 is also doing well on iOS. (PR) Comment! [Tech, Earnings, On the Move]
- Tuesday, May 7, 4:06 PM Electronic Arts (EA): FQ4 EPS of $0.55 misses by $0.03. Revenue of $1.04B (+6% Y/Y) in-line. - Monday, March 18, 4:12 PM John Riccitiello is resigning as Electronic Arts' (EA) CEO, and from EA's board, effective March 30. Chairman Lawrence Probst is now executive chairman, and will run the company while it searches for Riccitiello's successor. EA is also warning it expects FQ4 (March quarter) results to be "at the low end of, or slightly below" prior guidance. The company previously forecast revenue of $1.025B-$1.125B and EPS of $0.57-$0.72; the consensus stands at $1.08B and $0.65. It looks like the Street cares more about the former news than the latter, shares +4.8% AH. (earlier) 1 Comment [Tech, Earnings, On the Move, Breaking News]
- Friday, February 8, 11:40 AM Activision (ATVI +11.6%) is making multi-year highs following a Q4 beat fueled by a record 44% op. margin and soaring Skylanders toy sales. Sterne Agee has upgraded shares to Buy, declaring Activision well-positioned for upcoming console refreshes and predicting major buybacks are on the way. Management noted on the earnings call most of the Q4 decline in World of Warcraft subs came from China, and that Western subs were relatively stable. Electronic Arts (EA +2.2%) is higher, and so is Chinese Warcraft partner NetEase (NTES +6.7%). 1 Comment [Tech, On the Move, Earnings]
- Thursday, January 31, 2:40 PM Though FQ3 sales and FQ4 guidance fell short of estimates, Electronic Arts (EA +4.5%) is having a good day. Low expectations following a torrent of negative industry data are helping, and so might decent numbers for some digital offerings. Battlefield 3 Premium subs rose by 900K Q/Q to 2.9M, FIFA 13 digital revenue topped $100M, The Simpsons: Tapped Out was the quarter's top-grossing iOS game ($23M), Origin's registered base rose by 9M to 39M (17M mobile), and total mobile sales rose 19% to $99M. Console revenue fell 28%. (transcript) Comment! [Tech, On the Move, Earnings]

- Tuesday, January 29, 5:35 PM Notable earnings after Wednesday’s close: ALGN, AMP, ATW, AVB, CDNS, CLB, CMO, COP, CTXS, DRE, EA, EDMC, FB, FIO, FTNT, JDSU, LVS, MUR, NOW, NXPI, OI, QCOM, QTM, STM, SWKS, TSCO Comment! [Earnings]
- Wednesday, October 31, 2012, 12:20 PM Take-Two Interactive (TTWO +3.1%) rallies after beating FQ2 estimates thanks to strong sales of Borderlands 2, and announcing Grand Theft Auto V will arrive in spring. FQ3 guidance for revenue of $325M-$375M and EPS of $0.45-$0.60 is below a consensus of $434.1M and $0.73, but Take-Two investors, accustomed to seeing such forecasts, seem to have priced that in. Meanwhile, Electronic Arts (EA +2.5%) is trekking higher in spite of delivering poor guidance to go with an EPS beat. (EA transcript) Comment! [Tech, Earnings, On the Move]
- Tuesday, October 30, 2012, 7:07 PM "Our [fiscal] Q3 looks soft mostly due to Medal of Honor," spoke Electronic Arts (EA) CEO John Riccitello on his company's earnings call. The Street has been concerned for a while about the reception for Medal of Honor Warfighter, which went on sale last week to underwhelming reviews. But a poor demand environment for console games isn't helping EA's cause either. And for now at least, EA's mobile and social gaming efforts aren't enough to offset. (FQ2 results: I, II) Comment! [Tech, Earnings]
- Tuesday, October 30, 2012, 4:47 PM More on Electronic Arts' FQ2: FQ3 guidance is for revenue of $1.25B-$1.35B and EPS of $0.50-$0.60, below a consensus of $1.39B and $0.71. FY13 guidance is in-line, but that warrants scrutiny in light of the FQ3 forecast. 7.4M FIFA 13 unit sales (exc. mobile), 2M Battlefield 3 Premium subscriptions. $108M in shares repurchased. 30M registered users for Origin online game platform. Mobile/handheld game revenue +29% Q/Q and +45% Y/Y to $115M, 11% of total. CC at 5PM ET (webcast). (PR) Comment! [Tech, Earnings]
- Tuesday, October 30, 2012, 4:21 PM Electronic Arts (EA): Q3 EPS of $0.15 beats by $0.05. Non-GAAP Net Revenue of $1.08B (+4.4% Y/Y) in-line. (PR) Comment! [Earnings, Tech]

TruffelPig: If you bought EA January 3 or so and they would be bought for $20 you would have lost money! That is NOT bullish really.

Chris Lau: Still expect big short term rallies on the way down. Until ad growth justifies current size, valuation will limit upside.

PandaBearish: EA has no cash cows. SWTOR was a huge flop that never broke 2 million subscribers and D3's cash auction house is $$ in the bank for ATVI
