- Tuesday, May 14, 7:31 AM EADS (EADSF.PK) says Q1 net profit nearly doubled to €241M as deliveries by Airbus (144 versus 131 in Q1 2012, 410 net orders) drove 16% revenue growth in commercial aircraft sales. Management also says it is confident that the company's 787 Dreamliner competitor, the A350, will make its first flight this summer. For the full year, the company sees "moderate" revenue growth and an operating profit of €3.5B. (Previously: A350 painted and flyable) Comment! [Earnings]
- Monday, May 6, 12:49 PM Dreamliner delays may benefit Airbus (EADSF.PK +0.8%) to the tune of $3.6B, as Qatar Airways CEO Akbar al Baker announces the airline is in talks to purchase 15 A330s "to fill in the gap that the [787] delays have caused," Reuters says. Qatar missed $200M in revenue due to the 787 grounding and indicates it has been compensated: "We have spoken to [Boeing]. We are done." The deal with Airbus is expected to be finalized in the coming months and underscores the knock-on benefits (I, II) Airbus has received in the wake of BA's 787 woes. Comment!
- Monday, April 22, 12:40 PM International Airlines Group announces a $6B order for 18 Airbus (EADSF.PK) A350s intended for its British Airways subsidiary. Some see the order as further proof that Airbus can compete with Boeing's (BA -1.1%) 777 in the "mini-jumbo" market. Separately, RBC Capital upgrades EADS to Outperform. 1 Comment
- Tuesday, April 9, 4:16 AM French media company Lagardere (LGDDF.PK) has sold its 7% stake in aerospace and defense firm EADS (EADSF.PK) in a private placement for €2.28B, or €37.43 a share. EADS placed an order of €500M in the transaction, which is part of a wider revamp of the company's ownership structure. (PR) Comment! [M&A]
- Thursday, April 4, 12:35 PM Boeing (BA +0.6%) says it logged 209 orders and delivered 137 commercial planes to customers in the first three months of 2013, essentially the same number it delivered during the first quarter of 2012: 102 737 single-aisle airplanes, six 747s, four 767s, 24 777s and one 787. Airbus (EADSY.PK), in contrast, logged 431 orders and delivered 144 planes in the first three months of 2013, a 10% increase over the same period a year ago. Comment! [Consumer]
- Thursday, March 21, 4:31 AM Boeing (BA) and Airbus (EADSF.PK) are reportedly vying for orders from Delta (DAL) that could be worth up to $6B at list prices. The airline is interested in acquiring 10-20 wide-body Boeing 777 jets or A330 planes for $4.3B, and a similar number of smaller 737s or A320s. 1 Comment
- Monday, March 4, 5:00 AM Canada has asked Boeing (BA), Lockheed Martin (LMT) and three other companies to provide information about their fighter jets as the country looks to replace its aging fleet of Boeing CF-18 Hornets. The government had said in 2010 that it would buy Lockheed's F-35 planes, but spiraling costs have prompted it to revisit the process. The other contenders are EADS, Saab and Dassault. 4 Comments
- Friday, March 1, 6:19 PM Nokia (NOK) will be removed from the Euro Stoxx 50 index on March 18 (translation), along with GDF Suez (GDFZY.PK). Replacing them are EADS (EADSY.PK) and Schneider Electric (SBGSY.PK). 38 Comments [Tech]
- Wednesday, February 27, 2:16 PM Airbus (EADSY.PK) works out an agreement with JetBlue (JBLU +3.3%) to retrofit the carrier's A320 fleet with the Sharklet wing innovation. The wing tip devices can improve the aerodynamics of aircraft to help reduce fuel burn and emissions by up to 4%. Comment! [Consumer]
- Tuesday, February 12, 6:08 PM Citigroup is out with another report anticipating U.S. energy independence by 2020, a time when "the bottom of today’s trading range ($90-$120/bbl) is going to be the top of the likely trading range" for crude oil. Among companies Citi mentions as big players and potential beneficiaries: CMI, NUE, ECA, CAT, DE, GE, MMM and SI. 2 Comments [Energy, Quick Ideas]
- Thursday, January 24, 3:05 AM Boeing (BA) and Airbus are reportedly vying for a contract worth up to an estimated $1B to supply 24-30 single-aisle short-haul jets to Delta Airlines (DAL), which is looking to update its fleet as part of a cost-cutting drive. Delta is interested in acquiring the cheaper current generation of 737s or A320s rather than the next-gen versions, and hopes to trade in some of its regional planes as part of the deal. 2 Comments [Consumer]
- Thursday, January 17, 6:02 AM Qatar Airways, whose CEO last week gave his support to Boeing's (BA) 787, has joined other carriers in indefinitely grounding its fleet of five Dreamliners after receiving instructions from Qatari regulators. On the brighter side for Boeing, its 921 aircraft orders in 2012 means that it's regained the crown of being the world's biggest planemaker after Airbus received 833. Airbus delivered 558 jets and Boeing 601. 1 Comment [Top Stories]
- Monday, January 7, 1:49 PM Emirates, the world’s biggest airline by international traffic, says it’s looking for a way to add 30 more Airbus SAS A380 superjumbos to its fleet. The only problem is that curfews at destination airports and a lack of space at the carrier’s Dubai base are constraining its capacity. One of its solutions to the problem the company is mulling over is by adding network hubs in other locations, like Huston, L.A. and San Francisco. Comment! [Global & FX, Consumer]
- Wednesday, January 2, 5:29 AM Four analysts estimate that Boeing (BA) overtook Airbus in the delivery of planes last year for the first time since 2002, mainly due to the U.S. company finally ramping up production of the 787. The forecasts concurs with those from the companies, with Boeing predicting 600 deliveries and Airbus 780. Agency Partners' Nick Cunningham reckons that output will continue rising until 2015, after which it will fall. 3 Comments
- Tuesday, December 18, 2012, 9:07 AM Pegasus Airlines orders 58 Airbus (EADSF.PK) A320neo jets and 17 larger A321neo aircraft in a deal worth $7.5B at list prices. The low-cost Turkish carrier has also taken an option to acquire another 25 planes, which would bring the total booking to $12B. It's a loss for Boeing (BA), as Pegasus has operated mainly 737 jets until now. Comment!
- Tuesday, December 4, 2012, 2:25 PM Shareholders are putting the finishing touches on concessions to squeeze out a deal to shake up EADS (EADSY.PK). The restructuring is expected to bring Germany on board as a direct shareholder for the first time, while allowing proxy industrial shareholders - French media firm Lagardere and Germany carmaker Daimler (DDAIY.PK) - to sell their stakes. Once completed, investors are hoping that meddling will be reduced as industrial proxy shareholders in France and Germany withdraw and state veto powers are curbed. Comment! [Global & FX, M&A]
