Good Time to Be An Online Merchant [view article]
    Randy,

Don't forget that PayPal, an eBay subsidiary, has a profitable strategic partnership with Yahoo!. If Microsoft embraces that relationship, eBay will benefit handsomely. If Microsoft de-emphasizes the relationship or simply ignores it during the inevitable merger turmoil, then eBay's golden goose laying fewer eggs.

So let me get this right...there is a tool available to eBay Live Auction platform sellers that lets them specify/adjust listing end/time duration to allow them maximum exposure for a listing/set of listings. Sounds an awful lot like the auction extender tool that eBay prevented core site sellers from using in January of 07 after much internal debate. The tool allowed for continues auction duration extensions that bumped the duration out at the last moment as it was moving up in the 'ending soonest', thus giving a listing multiple 'ending soonest' exposures before it ultimately ended. The tool improved sales (and reduced fees) for many sellers who used it, but eBay implemented policy in Jan 07 banning use of extender tools (see AuctionBytes.com for multiple stories). Their reasoning? It provided a bad buyer experience, and was a form of search manipulation. The tool on the Live Auction platform seems to offer the same seller advantages, the same poor buyer experience, and the same eBay policy violation. Reply

Q1 Data Bodes Well for eBay's New Fees [view article]
Wow; one positive article about ebay and you all freak out. Maybe it's because things aren't as bad as you thought they would be and it scares you that your yarn and kitten store isnt making you as rich as you thought it would. Maybe it scares you that the new feedback system will force you to be honest with your buyers since they no longer have to worry about retaliation for paying a minute past 24 hours or telling you "hey one month is a little long for shipping".

As far as the "boycott" in May; yeah I see that the first scheduled boycott when the announcement was made went sooooo well. Business went on as usual. Why don't you grow up and become professional for once in your life? That "boycott" if you can call it that hurt the sellers more than it would ever hurt ebay.

Take it for what it really is; good news about ebay for once. Deal with it.

Ebay is messing with livilhoods of people by the millions and it's nice to see them be exposed for what they truly are...

As a former seller on ebay, leaving with 100% feedback, I will no longer support that greedy, lieing, business...

We have sold antiques on eBay for 10+ years, and have noticed that eBay Live Auctions always sell for more than the items we list each day. And that is in spite of the fact that some of the sellers have very poor feedback (less that 96%), and also charge a significant buyers premium. This made no sense to us, but now I understand why this can (and does) happen. Ebay needs to apply the same shill bidding rules to Live Auctions that they apply to normal listings every day. Allowing auction houses to shill bid on their own items with special tools is still 'shill bidding', and this cannot be tolerated. It's just a shame that it took legal action for ebay to get serious about this problem. Big auction houses got special treatment from eBay for years, it seems to us, and the little guy that sells on ebay every week, and again got the short end of the stick. How long has eBay been aware of this? And why has not something been done sooner? jk Reply

What Ever Happened to eBay's _____? [view article]
Keep up the good work Randy , spot on again.
Its amazing that there any feebay supporters left I think they must be disgruntled stock holders blaming someone else except the clowns who started this mass exodus and fiasco.
Turning sellers and buyers against each other , (giving a "fee decrease", and raising FVF's). taking away the right of sellers to weed out scammers and fraudsters (no negatives or neutrals to be left for them from May) , apparently grossly inflating listings through "tests" and "mistakes" , hope the authorities are vigoursly following up on this one and any evidence of stock manipulation .
Many more issues that "one liner" User 153301 appears to unaware of or selectively ignores.
Must be an ostrich with head in the sand .

Q1 Data Bodes Well for eBay's New Fees [view article]
significant numbers of paying customers aboard ebays 'good ship venue' are shouting from the decks ''iceberg dead ahead''.

they are hoping captain donahue, the ebay shipping line, or even the founder designer pierre, might hear them, take heed and change course, toward safe calm waters, inwhich to weather out the brewing economic storm.

    meanwhile.......

Under The Radar News - Monday [view article]
"eBay (EBAY) is looking to make its affiliate marketing an in-house venture. If it succeeds, eBay could dump ValueClick's (VCLK) Commission Junction."

Doesn't Amazon do it's own affiliate marketing? You'd have thought this is a core competency for a company like eBay.

"Wingo says "listings are up, conversions are up and that means..... yep, GMV is up nicely and so far it's continuing its upward path." "

Such tripe! Those two factors - Listing Numbers and 'Conversions' (STR) - have absolutely no direct relationship to the GMV metric.

Ebay could have a million One-Dollar new listings that ALL sell and the GMV could actually DECREASE. All it would take is for the previous period (week, month, year) to have had a SMALLER quantity of true Quality goods trading at anything more than that One-Dollar amount.

The media items have increased, that is true, but who cares if there's more $2-$5 items on the site. The quality goods that sell for $25-$5000 aren't being shown in Best Match search results and sellers have stopped wasting their money in listing them. GMV is down - way down.
