Buy and hold is bogus we are back to 1999 levels. I am down this year but far less than the averages because of watching stocks, taking profits and cutting losses. In retrospect I should have cut even more losses. The most frightening thing I am hearing in the media is just sit pat and hold, it will come back and even worse one so-called financial expert on TV advising to only looking at your 401K statements once or twice a year! I learned something from the tech crash. I am working on educating my friends who are now willing to pay attention about having some cash and at least knowing what you own and not to blindly trust so-called financial advisors. Let this latest crisis teach all investors - ALWAYS have your Protective Exit Strategy in place from the start. Do your fellow American a favor and show him that Buy&Hold is the riskiest approach to investing and can be shown so. Put something in place that ensures that one can protect profits and keep losses to a minimum. Use an approach smarter than trailing stops, moving averages etc. Use an approach that will adjust itself continually to the stock's behavior and market conditions. Be smart! Replycharlie

BAC just cut their dividend in half ... better delete them from the list ReplyDividend Aristocrats Survived September [view article]
I own a good number of stocks in the list and have held my own quite well during September. However, the economy must be allowed to grow. ReplyDividend Aristocrats Survived September [view article]
Really a little goodie is it not, the dividend stocks are nice, but that hardly makes up the whole market or the economy for that matter. Having a portfolio that includes dividend paying stocks is a good idea, comes under diversification. Wholly unconnected is the clap traddle about mark to market: either we know the value or we don't, if we do not we say so. It is the truth and avoiding it is dishonest. As for your FDIC approval, it is only to help the banks hold on to deposits. But when a bank weakens the depositor who watch price know when its time to leave. You like hiding your head under bushels when the view is not your liking. That is not reasonable or supportable. ReplyAnonymous

Great table David, thanks! ReplyDividend Aristocrats Survived September [view article]
It may be time for "the government to gain ownership of public companies", they can't run themselves profitably, they lie and cook the books so maybe it's time to Nationalize the banking industry. The U.S. has long had heavy regulations on Utilities because it is necessary for them to serve the public and not be jacked around by price gouging and incompetence. Well we are now told that the free market economy can't function without the banking industry which has proven itself incompetent thus needing strict regulation (another word for Nationalization). This article is killing me AEE has not raised DIV. forever and stock price is down over last 5 years ! Come on ! ReplySix High Yielding Electric Utilities [view article]
GXP is also a high-yield stock with poor management ! Yield is high but stock price over last 5 years is down about 30% ! Dividend has not been raised in 10 years !!!!!!!! Please ReplyLooking for the Perfect Dividend Stock [view article]
To penny , love call on JNJ ! Also look at PEP , PG . these guys , JNJ , PG , and PEP have all doubled pay-out over last decade . ReplyLooking for the Perfect Dividend Stock [view article]
To quiz , div. will not last for MCHP will not last . They can barely cover div. now . They are in highly viotile biz. The stock is a roller coaster to put it mildly ! They will not be able to grow fast enough to keep raising div. they can barely cover now ! ReplyLooking for the Perfect Dividend Stock [view article]
to penny stock , why would you invest in stock with low div. growth like ED . Over last 10 years stock has also earned about a 25% stock price gain along with avg. yield of about 5.5% . Stock has been very stable ! So investors have gained about 8% a year . Not huge , but not bad . ReplySix High Yielding Electric Utilities [view article]
EDE has a nice current yield BUT THEY DON'T raise their dividend and have not in years . The stock has also been trading sideways forever , over the last 2 years it's actually down a little in price . I personally would not touch EDE ! Reply
