- Tuesday, May 7, 2:58 PM Emerson Electric (EMR -1.6%) dips after its FQ2 misses on all counts this morning. Net earnings rose 2.9% Y/Y as overall revenue was boosted by stronger process-management and climate-technology sales, but the company said in its call that orders in April continued to trend downward for a third month, reflecting ongoing deterioration in business confidence. Based on that view, the company lowered its FY13 outlook, now expecting $3.48 to $3.58 per share in earnings and sales growth of 1.5% to 2.5%. Comment! [Energy, Earnings, On the Move]

- Friday, April 5, 6:27 PM Weakness in commodities is not a sign of a global slowdown, it's actually good for stocks, says Douglas C. Lane & Associates' Sarat Sethi. A lot of “hot money” is moving out of the sector as the dollar rallies and “stuff” gets more expensive, and its likely to flow into growth opportunities as opposed to traditionally defensive sectors like utilities and consumer staples. His recommendations: global manufacturing companies such as Danaher (DHR) and Emerson (EMR), which his firm owns, as well as transports, notably airlines. 6 Comments [Commodities, U.S. Economy]

- Tuesday, December 4, 2012, 11:42 AM Many U.S. firms are cash rich abroad but cash poor at home, and the SEC worries they aren’t presenting investors with an honest appraisal of their liquidity. “That doesn’t mean they could suddenly run out of money to pay their bills," WSJ's Kate Linebaugh writes. "But it does mean there could be unseen limits on their ability to pay dividends and buy back shares." 36 Comments [U.S. Economy, Global & FX]
- Tuesday, December 4, 2012, 2:45 AM The biggest U.S. firms generate only around a third of their revenue abroad, but a large number keep their ever growing cash mountains overseas and away from the IRS. It means that the likes of Emerson Electric (EMR), which has around $2B of cash in Europe and Asia, have to resort to borrowing to pay dividends or buy back shares. 1 Comment [U.S. Economy]
- Tuesday, November 6, 2012, 9:40 AM Emerson Electric Co. (EMR) declares $0.41/share quarterly dividend, 2.5% increase from prior dividend of $0.4. For shareholders of record Nov. 16. Payable Dec. 10. Ex-div Nov. 14. Comment! [Dividends]
- Tuesday, November 6, 2012, 6:47 AM More on Emerson Electric (EMR) Q3 earnings: "Orders have slowed as near-term business investment has become more cautious ... This has resulted in a challenging and tenuous planning environment," says the company, expecting 2013 sales growth of just 0-5%. As opposed to the norm - firms hoping for 2013 H2 to bail them out - Emerson expects any growth to be in H1 thanks to the Thai floods of 2012 H1. Shares -2% premarket. (PR) Comment! [Earnings]
- Tuesday, November 6, 2012, 6:33 AM Emerson Electric (EMR): Q3 EPS of $1.11 beats by $0.06. Revenue of $6.7B (+1% Y/Y). (PR) Comment! [Earnings, Tech]
