- Tuesday, May 7, 2:40 PM EOG Resources (EOG +7.7%) is upgraded to Buy from Hold with a $150 price target at Stifel Nicolaus following a strong Q1 report. The firm believes the drivers behind the Q1 beat will result in 2013 production growth coming in at the high end of EOG's unchanged production guidance range, improved 2014 outlooks, and approaching neutral free cash flow sooner than previously expected. Comment! [Energy, Quick Ideas, On the Move]
- Tuesday, May 7, 11:51 AM EOG Resources (EOG +16.9%) tops energy stocks on the S&P 500 after a strong Q1 beat and a rosy five-year outlook. “EOG leads its peers in organic production growth and financial flexibility,” Oppenheimer's Fadel Gheit says, adding that EOG continues to optimize drilling of its core plays while expanding into new areas in the Permian and Williston basins. Comment! [Energy, On the Move]
- Monday, May 6, 6:12 PM More on EOG Resources' (EOG) Q1 results: Total production +6% to 475K boe/day; crude oil production +33%. Targeting peer-group leading high growth rates of crude production for 2013-17; says its "outstanding asset base allows us to define long-term production gains with confidence because these onshore domestic assets are largely underpinned by high rate-of-return crude oil growth." Shares +3.3% AH. Comment! [Energy, Earnings, On the Move]
- Thursday, May 2, 11:57 AM EOG Resources (EOG +0.6%) could see 25% annual oil production growth in coming years, and its stock trades at cheaper multiples than rivals, RBC says as it adds EOG to its "energy best ideas" list. The firm also adds Oceaneering (OII +2.3%); it boots Helmerich & Payne (HP +1.9%) and Precision Drilling (PDS +1%), whose U.S. rig counts have not risen as quickly as expected, as well as Continental Resources (CLR -0.8%). After-hours top gainers, as of 5:15 p.m.: MXWL +9%. SAI +4%. OWW +3%. SPLK +3%. SUPN +3%.
After-hours top losers: LNDC -8%. ACMP -4%. EOG -4%. PXD -3%. LOGM -3%. 1 Comment [On the Move] - Friday, February 15, 12:02 PM Natural gas names such as Chesapeake (CHK -1.4%), Petroquest (PQ -3.8%) and EOG (EOG -2.7%) slump after experts say the Marcellus Shale gas boom will slow this year as drillers wait for pipelines to expand, new markets to develop and wholesale prices to rise. Hiring has tapered off, a big difference from recent years when production soared and companies spent billions on leases, well drilling and infrastructure. 6 Comments [Energy, On the Move]
- Tuesday, November 6, 2012, 2:31 PM EOG Resources (EOG +4.3%) shares hit four-year highs before pulling back, as CEO Mark Papa tells a conference call after Q3 results beat expectations that EOG plans to spend less on "money-losing" drilling next year, which will result in lower capital expenditures. EOG expects to spend ~$7.6B this year, but next year's budget will shrink as it spends less on drilling. Comment! [Energy, On the Move]
- Monday, November 5, 2012, 6:22 PM More on EOG Resources (EOG): Q3 handily beat Street estimates on higher production volume and better oil prices, but net profit fell 34% Y/Y as the natural-gas and oil producer continues to rack up higher expenses. Total expenses climbed 21% to $2.35B. Crude oil and condensate revenue, the largest contributor to its top line, climbed 59%. However, natural gas liquids revenue fell 18%, while natural gas revenue slipped 26%. Shares +3.3% AH. 1 Comment [Energy, On the Move, Earnings, Commodities]
- Friday, October 19, 2012, 2:48 PM Apache (APA -2%) is delaying its proposed $3B Kitimat project, as rivals have undercut APA's ability to sign customers to long-term supply contracts and left Kitimat without enough clients to begin construction. Cheniere Energy (LNG) has offered liquefied natural gas at prices based on the cheaper Henry Hub benchmark, spurring potential APA buyers to drive a harder bargain, analysts say. 6 Comments [Energy, On the Move]
- Friday, August 3, 2012, 11:36 AM EOG Resources (EOG +10.3%) is one of the S&P 500's best performers this morning, after its Q2 results easily beat estimates late yesterday. Net income rose 34% Y/Y on sharply higher oil output-benefit results, which can be attributed to the company's aggressive shift out of natural gas and into heavier liquids production. Crude oil and condensate volumes rose 52% while prices fell 4.6%. Natural-gas-liquids volume rose 42% as prices were down 35%. Natural-gas volumes sank 1.1% as prices tanked nearly 39%. Comment! [Energy, Commodities, Earnings, On the Move]
- Thursday, August 2, 2012, 5:42 PM EOG Resources (EOG): Q2 EPS of $1.11 beats by $0.18. Revenue of $2.91B (+13.2% Y/Y) beats by $390M. Shares +3.5% AH. (PR) Comment! [Earnings, Energy, On the Move]
- Monday, July 9, 2012, 8:56 AM Cabot Oil & Gas (COG) +2.3% premarket after the stock is upgraded to Buy with a new $55 price target (up from $41) by Goldman Sachs, which calls COG the lowest-cost U.S. dry gas shale producer and says a pullback in shares of domestic oil producing firms appears to be overdone. The firm also reaffirms Conviction List Buy ratings for EOG, PXD and NBL. 1 Comment [Energy, Quick Ideas, On the Move]
- Thursday, June 14, 2012, 10:49 AM Natural gas (UNG +6.4%) prices surge after the EIA reports U.S. natural gas stocks rose by 67B cubic ft., below the 71B-75B cubic ft. increase analysts had expected. Working stocks of natural gas totaled 2.94T cubic ft., up 708B cubic ft. Y/Y and 666B cubic ft. higher than the five-year average. XOM +0.7%, CHK +1.5%, EOG +1.5%, SWN +1.6%, COG +2.2%. 3 Comments [Energy, Commodities, On the Move]
- Wednesday, June 13, 2012, 2:59 PM Chesapeake (CHK -2.9%) is cut to Market Perform at Sanford Bernstein, which expects low natural gas prices to continue to pressure shares and Q2 earnings as "potentially a headwind to the stock." Bernstein sees value elsewhere with EOG Resources (EOG), Noble Energy (NBL) and Apache (APA). 1 Comment [Energy, Quick Ideas, On the Move]
- Tuesday, May 29, 2012, 1:46 PM EOG Resources (EOG +1.8%) gets a boost after Goldman added the shares to its Conviction Buy List earlier today and removed ExxonMobil (XOM -0.7%) following the selloff in energy shares. The firm now expects higher-beta names to outperform. 1 Comment [On the Move, Energy]
- Tuesday, January 10, 2012, 1:29 PM EOG Resources (EOG +2.8%) trades up after Deutsche Bank ups the shares to Buy, citing strong production trends from the company's Eagle Ford program over the second half of 2011. Comment! [Energy, On the Move]

Ocean Man: Shares up 6.5% pre-mkt to $134. No reason they shouldn't top the $138 mark last quarter's report to the stock up to. -
