Does anyone else agree with me on XTO that this is a great play? I really feel comfortable with this model and the potential for this company Reply

I guess due to the recent sell-off in energy no one will continue to drive ICE cars or it will actually get cold this winter. Reply

Interesting. Southwestern Energy, SWN, is the ONLY listed stock with a YTD price increase. But even SWN has been in a steady decline since June. Reply

Energy is SO going to make people a LOT of money. If only I had more cash--but I guess I'm destined to make my money mostly in precious metals. I do have some CNX--oh man would I like MORE right now. And CXG. I also have some microcaps. Reply

If you bought 500 shares of each one, you'd already be a millionaire! Reply

It almost would appear that there is strong manipulation in the entire sector as the numbers would indicate here.
The sector always hangs by a very thin thread anyway as evidenced by IKE last week so to say at this point that energy is dead is insane. Take the entire list and buy 500 shares of every one and sit for 2 years and the odds would support becoming a multi millionaire. When the "powers" decide that the energy sector is oversold and there is a blip in the supply or further extortion from the producers the prices will soar again. It would be an excellent investment at this particular time.

Nice chart. The color coding allows slicing and dicing at a glance. Thanks. Reply

Wednesday Options Outlook: EP, FTO, XLE, YHOO, FRX, EWZ, ETH, ACN [view article]
Option activity in EP was due to Jeff Clark's (of Stansbury Research) recommendation yesterday morning; "Buy the El Paso Energy October 17 calls (EPJR) up to $0.70." Other EP calls were also suggested. Jeff's track record is pretty darn good and he has a LOT of followers, including this author. Reply

This looks like a dartboard. Pick 3 sector ETFs, 3 little followed stocks
    and sleep better at night.

user 1997: actually ive been following MSN stockscouter for a long time. it actually does better when the market is flat or down. it's because it focuses on the best stocks at any given time. when the market is falling, particularly led by large-cap stocks, those declining stocks get the lowest ratings. ... this shows that if you only AVOID the WORST stocks, you dont actually have to own the BEST to outperform the market. The table provides data only. It does not provide recommendations.

Data is potentially useful depending on the reader and their own investment approach. It is an extract from the full list which simply identifies those companies that are increasing earnings and those that are not. That is potentially important information.

Perhaps one point would be to suggest to some readers how they might gain perspective about sectors, industries or companies by putting together a similar table for their full universe.

So what is the point of this? Buy the dogs and sell the companies with real earnings? Many of the financials will never recover in share price for two reasons, namely, there ability to lever the balance sheet and party in SIV land is over, and exisiting shareholders in most cases have been diluted into oblivion.
