Monday, May 20, 2:07 PM The U.S. Supreme Court rules that utility companies paying a windfall tax in the U.K. can claim a foreign tax credit on their U.S. tax returns, a win for PPL Corp. (PPL), which sought a U.S. credit after the U.K. assessed a windfall tax on a utility PPL partially owned. At least two other U.S. utilities - Entergy (ETR) and American Electric Power (AEP) - are in a similar position. Comment! [Energy]
Thursday, April 25, 11:51 AM Entergy (ETR -1%) slips on a bit of profit taking this morning after reporting a better-than-exepected Q1. Net profit swung to a profit as increased electricity sales volume boosted bottom line margins. Earnings at its utilities business rose 80% to $123.5M while its wholesale commodities business swung to a profit of $82.1M. Total electricity sales volume was up 1.6%. Sunday, February 10, 3:39 AM Airports in the North East are slowly ramping up operations after over 5,700 U.S. flights were cancelled yesterday and on Friday mostly because of the snow storm , with another 241 canceled for today. The blizzard dropped up to 40 inches of snow, cut power to over half a million customers, and left at least nine people dead. The device triggered when it should not have, ETR says; it has been removed and a replacement is being evaluated.
