    Just about anyone competing with JDS Uniphase (JDSU +17.7%) in a major way is higher after the optical component/test equipment firm beat FQ2 estimates and issued healthy FQ3 guidance. FNSR +10.8%. OCLR +10.5%. NPTN +4.3%. OPLK +4.7%. EXFO +6.6%. XXIA +1.9%. Telecom equipment makers are also up, lifted by both JDS and Ericsson's results: INFN +4.4%. CIEN +6.4%. ADTN +2.7%. JNPR +2.6%. PKT +3.6%. ALLT +3.2%. JDS mentioned on its earnings call "recent announcements and customer dialogue" bode well for 2013 telecom capex.

    Ixia (XXIA +8.4%) shoots higher after raising its Q4 revenue guidance range to $123.5M-$124.5M from $118M-$122M; the consensus stands at $120.5M. The telecom test equipment hardware vendor adds it expects revenue from two recent acquisitions - Anue and BreakingPoint - to amount to $30M-$31M, above guidance of $26M-$28M. Rival EXFO (EXFO +4.9%) is up in sympathy.

    EXFO (EXFO -1%) dips after posting a $0.03 loss for its FQ1, reversing a year-ago profit as telecommunications testing equipment maker posted weak sales. For the current quarter, the company expects its per-share result to range from break even to a loss of $0.04 on revenue of $62M to $67M. Analysts estimates are for a profit of $0.06 per share on revenue of $65M.

    More on EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering (EXFO): FQ3 misses across the board as the telecommunications testing equipment maker swung to a loss for the quarter on a weaker bookings and a 13% Y/Y decline in total revenue. The company also cuts guidance, now expecting a loss between $0.11 $0.07 per share on revenue of $55M - $60M. Street estimates were for a profit of $0.07 on $67M in revenue. Shares -3% AH.

The company also guides FQ3 lower, now expecting to earn $0.01 - $0.05 per share on revenue of $68M. Street estimates are at $0.10 per share on $72M in revenue. Shares -5.4% AH.

    EXFO, a maker of network testing gear, falls 4.2% AH after reporting FQ4 revenue of $64.4M (+10% Y/Y) and EPS of $0.03, missing consensus by $0.3M and $0.04. Gross margin declined by 0.6 points Q/Q, to 63.6%, and the company reported a book-to-bill ratio of 0.97. EXFO shares plunged in June following an EPS miss.  (PR)
