- Enterasys has annual revenue of $330M; that figure eclipses the $312.5M in revenue Extreme (EXTR) has been expected to produce in FY14 (ends June '14). The acquisition is expected to be immediately accretive, and to boost op. margins over time. (PR)
- Enterasys offers a line of Ethernet switches for data centers and campus networks, as well as Wi-Fi access points, network management tools, and a software-defined networking platform. There's a fair amount of overlap with Extreme's lineup (particularly in Ethernet switching), but Extreme argues integrating features from Enterasys' networking OS with Extreme's ExtremeXOS will yield synergies.
- Moreover, the merger will give Extreme more scale in a very competitive networking hardware space featuring not only 800-lb. gorilla Cisco, but also Huawei, Brocade, Juniper, H-P, Dell, and others.
