- Tuesday, July 10, 2012, 1:01 PM China plans to subsidize the development of pure-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles in the nation to reduce the nation's dependence on oil and cut emissions. The State Council's public goal of seeing 5M alternative-energy vehicles produced by 2020, blows away previous estimates and sets the prize high for a company able to knock out a technological breakthrough in the industry. EV-related plays include F,GM, TSLA, NSANY.OB, AVAV, ECTY, GACR.PK, KNDI, HMC, JCI, NRG, ZAAP.OB, VLKAY, and AONE. 10 Comments [Consumer, Global & FX, Energy]
- Monday, July 9, 2012, 4:27 AM While the slowing world economy, especially in Europe, is worrying investors on its own, it's also hurting earnings, a trend that's reinforcing shareholder concern. With earnings season set to kick off today, over 40 companies have already given profit warnings, including Ford (F) and Texas Instruments (TXN), and analysts say share prices haven't fully accounted for the darkening picture. Comment! [Global & FX, U.S. Economy]
- Friday, July 6, 2012, 6:39 AM Ford's (F) third entry into the hybrid segment is poised to make a dramatic impact. On the fuel efficiency front, the C-MAX Hybrid boasts a 47 mpg fuel efficiency ratings, beating the Toyota Prius V by 3 mpg. With a driving range of 500 miles utilizing both the electric motor and gasoline engine, the model aims to address one of the biggest concerns over electric vehicles. Ford plans to launch into the EV market in the fall and triple production capacity by next year. 6 Comments [Consumer]
- Thursday, July 5, 2012, 1:33 PM Auto sales in Canada were brisk in June, led by strong demand for import brands. Though the 2.8% Y/Y climb to 169,459 vehicles sold wasn't a knock-your-socks-off growth rate, the mark comes against a tough comparable from last year when automakers were flooding the market in the nation with incentives. Ford's (F -0.5%) Canadian unit is the leading automobile seller in the region. (Previous: U.S. car sales strong) Comment! [Consumer, Global & FX]
- Thursday, July 5, 2012, 10:57 AM Ford (F +0.4%) is expected to tap an insider to replace Alan Mulally when he steps down within the next couple of years. Early speculation centers on regional chiefs Mark Fields, Stephen Odell, and Joe Hinrichs - with outside candidates unfamiliar with the rebranding at Ford openly considered as long shots at best. 1 Comment [Consumer]
- Tuesday, July 3, 2012, 10:11 AM Ford (F) June U.S. sales: +7% to 207,759 vehicles. Cars +3% to 73,348: Fusion +17.4% to 24,433, Focus -0.9% to 21,186, Mustang +16.2% to 10,263. Utilities +9% to 63,121: Escape +28% to 28,500, Explorer +35% to 14,022, Edge +6.2% to 10,259. Trucks +9% to 71,290. (PR) 3 Comments [Breaking News]
- Monday, July 2, 2012, 8:36 AM Analysts at Sterne Agee chop their price target on Buy-rated Ford (F) down $3 to $15 due to the automaker's admitted struggles with its global business. At its crux, the company can't lower its costs quick enough in Europe to account for slumping sales due the slow pace of negotiating with unions and European governments. F -1.2% premarket. 2 Comments [Consumer]
- Friday, June 29, 2012, 3:32 PM A provision in the just-passed transportation bill will allow corporate pension plans to use the average interest rate over the past 25 years (high) as opposed to the last 2 years (low) towards calculating future returns. At a stroke, under-funded plans at companies like GM and F just became less so (and reported profits should benefit as well). 19 Comments [U.S. Economy]
- Friday, June 29, 2012, 2:11 PM The bullish case for Ford (F -4.3%) is presented by SA author Daniel Radkovich, who remains unfazed by the company's warning on global sales. Factoring in his belief that the company can turn all its segments into profit-makers and the industry's potential to bounce back as a whole, he sees a price range for Ford of $26 to $36 within 3 to 5 years as feasible. If he's right that the headwinds for Ford are subsiding, today's entry point of $9.60 looks tempting. 3 Comments [Consumer, Quick Ideas]
- Friday, June 29, 2012, 1:35 PM Automakers are expected to report the highest level of June sales in the U.S. in five years when the numbers are released next week. The consensus estimate of analysts of 13.9M vehicles, marks an improvement over last month's 13.7M tally, and should stand well-above the earthquake-impacted June total from last year. If all goes well, auto stocks could see a bounce higher after Ford's global sales warning cut to the bone. Reporting on July 3: GM, F, FIATY.PK, TM, HMC, NSANY, VLKAY, NSANY, and HYMLF.PK. 3 Comments [Consumer]
- Friday, June 29, 2012, 6:54 AM Citigroup removes Ford (F) from its Top Picks Live list after the automaker warns of global losses. After initially surviving weakness in the European auto market better than rivals, Ford now faces the same tough choices on downsizing on the continent. F -0.9% premarket. 5 Comments [Consumer, On the Move]
- Thursday, June 28, 2012, 4:41 PM Ford (F) -2.5% AH after its CFO says international losses would triple in Q2, primarily because of much weaker European sales, and it could close an assembly plant in Europe should demand keep falling. Ford lost $190M in Q1 in its overseas operations, with Europe accounting for nearly 80%; it had forecast Q2 international losses would be roughly the same as Q1. 13 Comments [Consumer, On the Move]
- Wednesday, June 27, 2012, 6:55 AM Ford (F) showcased its lineup of 2013 models on a test track in Detroit with the fuel efficiency of the cars being a focal point of the display. By the end of this year, the automaker will offer 8 vehicles that claim better than 40 mpg, more than any of its rivals. 6 Comments [Consumer]
- Tuesday, June 26, 2012, 8:56 AM Morgan Stanley warns that prices for premium automobiles are falling lower in China as manufacturers work to meet volume goals. Though the data isn't firm yet, the pricing drops could be enough to effectuate cuts in guidance. On watch: Chrysler (FIATY.PK), BMW (BAMXY.PK), Ford (F), and General Motors (GM). Comment! [Consumer, Global & FX]
- Monday, June 25, 2012, 12:57 PM UBS weighs in on Ford (F -1.9%) with positive comments to back up the firm's Buy rating on the automaker. It's a timely defense with shares dipping below the $10 mark for the first time since last November. 13 Comments [Consumer]
- Friday, June 22, 2012, 11:06 AM The NHTSA opens a safety investigation into Ford (F) over steering issues with model year 2011 Explorers. Complaints to the agency center on a loss of power steering that effects driving ability for the vehicles. 2 Comments [Consumer]

1980XLS-2.0: GM has much better exposure to Asia,(where the growth is) less a percent exposure to europe.F has lots of debt w/ governance issues as well. -
1980XLS-2.0: I also expect Lincoln to fail as brand, unlike Cadillac. Lincolns are nothing but re-badged Fords, like the mistakes of GM of the 1980's.
