Company Description
Ford Motor Company (referred to herein as "Ford", the "Company", "we", "our" or "us") was incorporated in Delaware in 1919. We acquired the business of a Michigan company, also known as Ford Motor Company, that had been incorporated in 1903 to produce and sell automobiles designed and... More

- Friday, May 3, 8:29 AM Ford (F) says it will pass its full-year record for hybrid sales this month as demand for the new C-Max and electric Fusion looks strong. In April, the automaker delivered 35,034 Fusion hybrids compared to the 3,257 Camry and 19,889 Prius hybrids Toyota moved. What to watch: Analysts are still bickering over the impact of lower gas prices on hybrid demand heading into the summer, but Ford appears poised to grab even more hybrid market share. 15 Comments [Consumer]
- Friday, May 3, 7:30 AM The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau expands its probe into car loans with a new round of subpoenas to lenders. The agency is looking into the sale of add-ons such as extended warranties and extra insurance to consumers by the financial arms of major automakers like Toyota (TM) and Ford (F). 1 Comment [Consumer]
- Thursday, May 2, 10:52 AM Yesterday's doubled-digit gains in April auto sales for the Big Three (GM, F, FIATY.PK) is another indication that the tables have turned in the automobile industry. The Detroit automakers increased their U.S. market share by 150 bps to 46.2% in just a year at the expense of Japanese automakers (NSANY.OB, HMC, TM). The trend has become so entrenched that Nissan is cutting prices and Toyota is reeling from the realization that its powerhouse Camry is now "boring" to consumers. 8 Comments [Consumer]
- Thursday, May 2, 8:06 AM Shares of Ford (F) move up 1% premarket after GM beats estimates with its Q1 report. A major distinction between the two automakers at the moment is profitability in Europe. GM says its adjusted loss for Q1 was $175M which looks downright appealing compared to the full-year forecast from Ford for a $2B loss on the continent. 1 Comment [Consumer]
- Thursday, May 2, 6:39 AM Ford (F) plans to add 2K jobs at a pickup truck factory in Kansas City to help meet demand for the F-15 truck series and the Ford Transit full-size van. While auto sales are growing at a brisk rate in the U.S., truck sales are even hotter. (Previous: Ford's April tally) 1 Comment [Consumer]
- Wednesday, May 1, 10:28 AM The Big Three (F, GM, FIATY.PK) all posted double-digit Y/Y April U.S. sales numbers and topped estimates, but is the best still to come? A fresh slate of models is just hitting dealerships and industry insiders say pent-up demand in the U.S. is barely getting tapped. Though costs in Europe are still a major concern, auto stocks (CARZ, VROM) are becoming enticing on U.S. strength and with China looking wide open as local joint ventures start to pay off. 4 Comments [Consumer, Global & FX]
- Wednesday, May 1, 9:39 AM Ford (F) April U.S. sales: +18% to 212,584 vehicles to just beat the estimate of analysts calling for a 17% gain. The Ford Fusion and Ford Escape posted April sales record, up 24% and 52% respectively. By brand, Ford sales were up 17.8% and Lincoln soared 20.7%. Truck sales were strong with the Ford F-Series gaining 24% to 59,030 units sold. Shares of Ford are up 0.6%. 5 Comments [Consumer]
- Wednesday, May 1, 7:46 AM Auto sales are being driven higher by a recovery in the housing market and the wealth effect of a percolating stock market just as much (if not more) than pent-up demand, according to analysts. The average age of vehicles on the road has actually increased to 11.2 years from 10.8 years, giving some indication that perhaps "hundreds of thousands" of units need to be replaced. What to watch: All the major automakers report April U.S. sales numbers today with expectations running high that milder weather and new models on the market boosted sales. 13 Comments [Consumer]
- Wednesday, May 1, 6:48 AM Ford (F) becomes the first major automaker to open a showroom Myanmar as it looks to expand in the nation dominated by older vehicles on the road. The automaker plans to import cars into Myanmar from plants in North America and Thailand. 3 Comments [Consumer]
- Tuesday, April 30, 12:55 PM Automobile industry snapshot: With a third of the year in the books, the fight for market share in the U.S. is being won by Ford (F), Chrysler (FIATY.PK), and Toyota while South Korean automakers stumble (KIMTF.PK, HYMLF.PK) and General Motors (GM) slowly recovers to where it stood six months ago. Though estimates for total industry sales in 2013 keep ranging higher, watch for Japanese automakers (NSANY.OB, HMC, TM) to use a weakened yen to compete more aggressively on price. On the EV front, the Nissan Leaf and Chevrolet Volt hope to take advantage of Tesla Motors (TSLA) pulling the plug on its 40-kWh version of the Model S. 16 Comments [Consumer]
- Monday, April 29, 8:42 AM The luxury automobile market in China could take a minor hit with a new regulation banning military license plates from high-end sellers including Lincoln (F), Cadillac (GM), Mercedes-Benz (DDAIF.PK), and Porsche ((POAHY.PK). Though official numbers are hard to come by, the practice of high-ranking officers driving luxury vehicles is common. 6 Comments [Consumer, Global & FX]
- Friday, April 26, 8:24 AM Automobile sales in western China are expanding twice as fast as in the nation's wealthier coastal cities, according to China-based auto analysts. The development plays well into Ford's (F) strategy after the automaker invested to set up plants in the region capable of producing more than one million vehicles a year. 2 Comments [Consumer]
- Thursday, April 25, 8:38 AM The U.S. government will buy up to 10K hybrids to help trim fuel costs for the fleet of government cars. The marching orders come from the GSA which estimates savings of close to 1M gallons of fuel over the lifetime of the vehicles. The agency didn't say which manufacturer it will buy the vehicles from, although presumably General Motors (GM) and Ford (F) will receive some home field advantage. 15 Comments [Consumer, U.S. Economy]
- Wednesday, April 24, 1:43 PM The latest batch of forecasts for auto sales indicates the SAAR will rise 5.3% to 15.3M. Though the pace of unit growth is considerably slower than the last three years, the sector has become less promotional as witnessed by the decent 3.1% rise in average transaction price in spite of the shift to less expensive automobiles. What to watch: A drop in vehicle inventory levels during April would be a good sign that the demand trend is still in place as the spring/summer selling season heats up and manufacturers haven't overshot with production. 1 Comment [Consumer]
- Wednesday, April 24, 8:23 AM A decline in Ford's (F) operating margin in North America during Q1 isn't a major worry to automobile industry watchers. The automaker is adding workers to keep up with increasing demand while the shift to smaller cars and SUVs is also bound to take a slight swipe at profits. Instead of being in a mode of cost-cutting, Ford is planning on positioning for future profits with automobile demand on the continent expected to continue to rise. F +1.1% premarket. (Previous on earnings: I, II) Comment! [Consumer, On the Move]
- Wednesday, April 24, 7:22 AM More on Ford's (F) Q1: The automaker beats profit as results in North America and Asia offset weakness in Europe and South America. Operating margin in South America took a significant blow from the devaluation of the currency in Venezuela while higher pension costs impacted Europe. Ford reiterates its forecast for strong sales and double-digit operating margin in North America. Shares of Ford +1.4% premarket to $13.55. (PR) Comment! [Consumer, Earnings, On the Move]
