F vs. ETF Alternatives
Company Description
Ford Motor Company (referred to herein as "Ford", the "Company", "we", "our" or "us") was incorporated in Delaware in 1919. We acquired the business of a Michigan company, also known as Ford Motor Company, that had been incorporated in 1903 to produce and sell automobiles designed and... More

- Monday, March 11, 6:45 AM Passenger car sales in China rose 20% to 2.84M units in January and February with both Ford (F) and Hyundai (HYMLF.PK) showing strong gains. For the year, forecasts for total vehicle sales top 20M units as urbanization and rising incomes continue to stoke demand. 2 Comments [Consumer, Global & FX]
- Friday, March 8, 6:23 PM Ford's (F) Lincoln brand has enjoyed a nice YTD: After being named a top five brand in J.D. Power's annual auto dependability survey and topping two categories in Kelley Blue Book's best value rankings, Lincoln's MKZ luxury sedan is one of five to earn a top rank in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's new crash test. Other models earning the crash-safety honor come from Volvo, Honda and Mazda. 6 Comments [Consumer]
- Friday, March 8, 12:44 PM The automobile industry could be set for a boom, according to ConverEx Chief Market Strategist Nicholas Colas. The analysts thinks a mid-16M sales run in the U.S. is quite possible and the future beyond this year for the Big Three (GM, F, FIATY.PK]]) is even brighter with demand significantly pent-up. The secret weapon: If auto companies fire up aggressive leasing programs another one to two millions in units sold could occur. 5 Comments [Consumer]
- Friday, March 8, 10:28 AM Do automakers stand a chance of increasing electric vehicle sales in China? Though the talk from major companies (F, GM, VLKAY.PK, TM) is that they plan to start or ramp up electric sales in China - and even Tesla Motors (TSLA +1.4%) plans to open a dealership in the nation - by all accounts EV sales in China are stuck in neutral. Mind-blowing levels of smog in Beijing this year have elevated the debate on vehicle emissions, but until the government actively decides to sacrifice economic growth for environmentally friendly practices the EV initiatives are speculative. 29 Comments [Consumer, Global & FX]
- Thursday, March 7, 10:07 AM Ford (F -0.2%) recalls 230K minivans for issues with corrosion. Models affected include the Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey from model years 2004 to 2007. 17 Comments [Consumer]
- Wednesday, March 6, 1:49 PM Ford (F +0.3%) says sales in China through its joint ventures rose 7% Y/Y to 43,642 units with the timing of the Chinese New Year dampening demand. The two-month start to 2013 is up 46% compared to a year ago. 2 Comments [Consumer]
- Tuesday, March 5, 9:17 AM The Big Three (GM, F, FIATY.PK) automakers will increasingly woo women buyers this year in the U.S. after last year set a record for the percentage of cars registered to the gender. The trio will be fighting a tough current with recent surveys indicating women prefer foreign models to domestic. Look for marketing campaigns to subtly highlight a wider variety of colors and promote both dependability and fuel efficiency. 8 Comments [Consumer, Global & FX]
- Tuesday, March 5, 7:37 AM An exec with Ford (F) says the automaker will import its EcoSport compact crossover from India into the European market in a bid to take market share. The crossover segment is one of the few bright spots in the European automobile industry with decent margins and broad appeal, but is also crowded with aspiring models. Comment! [Consumer]
- Monday, March 4, 12:33 PM Car sales in Germany fell 10% Y/Y which follows up on a 8.5% drop for January. The continued lack of vitality in Europe's most important automobile market sets a dour tone for the Geneva Car Show this week as it's hard to find a forecast for a quick turnaround. Though the trend is particularly hard to swallow for Volkswagen (VLKAY.PK), BMW (BAMXY.PK), and Daimler (DDAIF.PK) trying to boost sales on their home turf, it also affects the automobile sector (GM, F, NSANY.OB, TM, HMC, TSLA) as a whole as it looks toward Germany for answers on the continent-wide demand slump. 2 Comments [Consumer, Global & FX]
- Saturday, March 2, 11:00 AM Electric Vehicle Roundup: 1) Chevrolet Volt (GM) sales continue to fluctuate wildly, up 59% Y/Y and 43% M/M in Feb. to easily beat sales on Toyota's (TM) Prius. 2) Look for Ford (F) to include sales numbers on the Fusion Energi as the model hits dealerships this month. 3) Nissan (NSANY.OB) sold 636 Leafs in the U.S., +36.6 Y/Y, flat M/M, just ahead of the unveiling of a new model. 4) In Scotland, politicians issue campaign promises to install an EV charging point every 50 miles. 5) Tesla Motors (TSLA) trades in the mid-$30s post-earnings. On tap: Will revenue cover payments on a DOE loan and production costs or will Elon Musk need to float more stock? 79 Comments [Consumer]
- Friday, March 1, 9:43 AM More on Ford (F -1.7%): The automaker says it will build 800K vehicles in North America during Q2, up 9% from last year's production run. A Q1 production target of 770K vehicles is unchanged from prior guidance. (Previous: February U.S. sales) 4 Comments [Consumer]
- Friday, March 1, 9:40 AM Ford (F) February U.S. sales: +9.3% to 195,822 vehicles, short of the estimate of TrueCar.com calling for a 11.9% rise. Ford brand up 10.9% to 190,939, to help offset a 29.4% drop in Lincoln sales. By model, Fusion +28% Y/Y to 27,875 and Focus -10.9% to 20,808. The closely-watched C-Max saw sales rise 17% M/M to 3,183. (PR) 2 Comments [Consumer]
- Friday, March 1, 8:03 AM Ford (F) suffers a tough month in India along with the rest of the industry, losing 44% of its domestic sales compared to a year ago. For the fiscal year which ends on March 31, automobile sales in India are down 1.8% so far. Despite the tough road, an exec with the automaker says aggressive plans to make India a regional export hub are still moving forward. Comment! [Consumer, Global & FX]
- Wednesday, February 27, 8:39 AM Japanese automakers led by Toyota (TM) and Honda (HMC) topped Consumer Reports' annual ranking of automobile brands while U.S. automakers (GM, F, FIATY.PK) lagged further down the list. Though initiatives by the Big Three to freshen up their lineup could boost sales, the magazine thinks that there might be growing pains. CR: "...when you come out with new models and new powertrains, you end up with reliability woes." 14 Comments [Consumer]
- Tuesday, February 26, 7:03 AM The NHTSA opens a new investigation into a potential issue with the sudden loss of engine power for Ford (F) Escape, Fusion, and Mercury models from the years 2009 to 2011. The probe could affect as many as 724K vehicles. 1 Comment [Consumer]
- Monday, February 25, 7:35 AM Consumers bought 1.2M new automobiles (+4.3% Y/Y, +15% M/M) in the U.S. during February, according to analysts. Though it's an excellent sign that average transaction prices rose and the level of incentives in the industry were moderate, inventory levels will be watched closely to ensure automakers aren't getting too far in front of demand. Of the pack, Ford (F) is forecast to have the largest yearly jump in sales for the month with Chrysler (FIATY.PK), Toyota (TM) and General Motors (GM) also strong - while Honda (HMC) and Nissan (NSANY.OB) are likely to report a decline in sales. 7 Comments [Consumer]

1980XLS-2.0: GM has much better exposure to Asia,(where the growth is) less a percent exposure to europe.F has lots of debt w/ governance issues as well. -
1980XLS-2.0: I also expect Lincoln to fail as brand, unlike Cadillac. Lincolns are nothing but re-badged Fords, like the mistakes of GM of the 1980's.

Sold my F to buy GT. better value in GT then F. You buy cars once in 10 years but buy tires every year if you drive like me - View all 6 replies

rubberoptions: with gas in Nor. Cal @ $4.50 per gallon, most in the Mission district of San Francisco won't buy new tires; they'll just buy used tires -
whitehead1: In order for someone to buy used tires, someone must buy new tires prior to that.

losbronces: F-16 is now a very old design (1976) and has been sold to Saudi Arabia. Its a relatively cheap warplane, but not the latest technology. -
1980XLS-2.0: Old news,. Risk of irritating china is the reason, Taiwan will only get F-16's vs more advanced fighters.
