- Tuesday, March 5, 11:43 AM Ferro (FOE -2.8%) says it will redeploy, divest or curtail assets that can't generate sufficient returns, and is reviewing its product lines to determine potential to create value and generate cash, a day after it rejected A. Schulman's (SHLM +1.2%) $563M buyout offer. Much of FOE's 8% drop in Q4 revenues is traced to weakness in its electronic materials business. Comment! [Commodities, Earnings, M&A, On the Move]

Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed. With the sale, FOE will eliminate operating losses associated with the solar business. For FY13, FOE now expects EPS of $0.25 to $0.30, higher than estimates of $0.23. 1 Comment [On the Move, M&A]

[On the Move] - Wednesday, October 10, 2012, 10:39 AM Ferro (FOE -21.2%) shares are faltering after it again lowered its 2012 earnings guidance, mostly owing to a weakening outlook for its business focused on pastes and metal powders used in the production of solar cells. FOE expects to post writedowns of $175M-$200M. At least two research firms - Longbow and First Analysis - downgrade shares. Comment! [Energy, On the Move]

Premarket gainers: TRLG +24%. AUQ +10%. TISA +7%.
Losers: OCZ -41%. FOE -17%. AVT -11%. GLUU -7%. 1 Comment [On the Move] - Tuesday, October 9, 2012, 6:40 PM Ferro (FOE) -8.5% AH after warning it expects 2012 EPS of $0.07-$0.12, below a $0.17 consensus. The company blames weakness in its solar pastes and metal powders businesses - the former saw a $0.14-$0.17/share loss. Ferro adds it's "exploring strategic options" for its solar pastes business, which has been hit hard by the solar industry's pricing and overcapacity issues, and plans to take impairment charges of $175M-$200M. Comment! [Earnings, On the Move]
- Tuesday, February 28, 2012, 7:13 PM More on Ferro (FOE): Q4 misses both EPS and revenue estimates. Revenue declined 17% Y/Y, as demand for conductive pastes used in solar cells declined, resulting in significant booking reductions by its customers. The company also lowers FY12 guidance, now expecting its EPS to be $0.40 - $0.65, below the Street view of $0.68. Shares -1.9% AH. Comment! [Earnings, On the Move]
- Tuesday, February 28, 2012, 6:19 PM Ferro (FOE): Q4 EPS of -$0.08 misses by $0.05. Revenue of $442.6M (-17.6% Y/Y). Shares -1.9% AH. (PR) Comment! [Breaking News, On the Move]
- Wednesday, October 5, 2011, 11:00 AM More on specialty chemical stocks (previous): KeyBanc's Michael Sison takes a stinging swipe at the sector with a wave of downgrades, saying growth could be limited for the next 6 to 12 months. He doesn't buy into the valuation argument calling it a "pointless task...as 'cheapness' has been redefined on a weekly basis." Downgraded to Hold from Buy: FOE +1.2%, KRA +3.3%, OMN -6%, KWR -2.5%. Comment! [On the Move, Quick Ideas]
- Wednesday, October 5, 2011, 10:04 AM Shares of specialty chemical companies are getting hit hard this morning after PolyOne (POL -3.8%) takes on a downgrade from Keybank. An analyst with the firm says the sector "tends to be more cyclical" and will underperform as volumes slow. Decliners: OMN -9.5%, FOE -6.8%, KWR -5.3%, FTL -3.9%. Comment! [On the Move]
- Friday, September 16, 2011, 10:52 AM Moody's upgrades Ferro (FOE +1.4%) a notch to Ba3 on improved cash flow, better operating performance and lower debt levels. Comment! [On the Move]
- Monday, August 1, 2011, 5:45 PM More on Ferro (FOE): Q2 sales beat expectations, but material costs hit bottom-line margins. The company also cut guidance for Q3 due to reduced sales expectations for its conductive metal pastes. Shares -7.5% AH. Comment! [Earnings, On the Move]
