Monday, May 13, 2:36 PM A bullish weekend column from SA contributor R.J. Chopin seems to be giving a lift to Glu Mobile (GLUU +6.2%). Chopin is upbeat about the impact of further smartphone adoption in the U.S. and elsewhere, as well as the enormous popularity of mobile gaming among smartphone owners. He's also a fan of Glu's online gambling efforts, and its decision to focus on fewer, higher-quality titles backed by constant updates. Glu filed its Q1 10-Q on Friday. Comment! Monday, April 8, 10:42 AM Glu Mobile (GLUU +8.5%) is adding to Friday's gains, and is now up 16% over the last 2 trading days. Over the weekend, SA contributor Brandon Osborne followed up on his Thursday column on Glu by pointing out the text of a "Change of Control Severance Agreement" Glu recently signed with game studio chief Matthew Ricchetti suggests the company is at least open to buyout offers, and is making contingency plans. Friday, April 5, 11:57 AM Glu Mobile (GLUU +4.1%) is trekking higher after SA contributor Brandon Osborne argues in detail why the mobile game developer should beat a Q1 EPS consensus of -$0.07. Citing Glu's long history of EPS beats, its success rate and average daily revenue for past game launches, favorable sell-side commentary about the performance of new games, improving margins/monetization, and the success of Mac game launches, Osborne expects Q1 EPS of at least -$0.04, and considers a profit possible. Wednesday, April 3, 10:24 AM Zynga (ZNGA +12.4%) rips higher as its first real-money gambling titles go live in the U.K. two months ahead of schedule. It doesn't hurt that 17.8% of the float was shorted as of March 15. TechCrunch observes Zynga is accepting payments in U.S. dollars, Canadian dollars, euros, and yen (in addition to pounds), perhaps setting the stage for fast international expansion. Tuesday, March 19, 12:29 PM Electronic Arts (EA -7.7%) is now seeing big losses, as the Street concludes its March quarter warning takes priority over John Riccitiello's resignation. Game developers Activision (ATVI -2%), Take-Two (TTWO -1.8%), Zynga (ZNGA -1.7%), and Glu Mobile (GLUU -6.8%) are also lower, as is retailer GameStop (GME -2.3%). EA's warning comes a few days after NPD provided more downbeat retail sales data for the industry to chew on, as aged consoles and a shift to mobile gaming continue taking a toll. Monday, March 18, 11:43 AM Northland jumps on board the Glu Mobile (GLUU +12.9%) bandwagon, upgrading shares to Outperform in the wake of last week's huge online gambling-fueled rally. Analyst Darren Aftahi claims smartphone game sales are beating expectations, and that Glu is seeing a higher percentage of hit titles with its latest releases.
