- Tuesday, December 18, 2012, 8:15 AM Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (GMCR) keeps the corporate shuffle moving in full swing. Norman Wesley is elected to the role of Chairman of the Board and A.D. Mackey is selected as an independent director. In addition, interim Chairman of the Board Michael Mardy moves back to his role on the audit committee. 2 Comments [Consumer]
- Thursday, December 13, 2012, 10:08 AM Starbucks (SBUX +0.6%) drops the price of its Verismo brewer by up to $100 on its website in what could either be a limited holiday deal or a response to consumer reaction to the initial prices on the single-serve coffee maker. It's the kind of news which Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (GMCR +0.8%) investors can spin either way depending upon their long/short frame of mind. 8 Comments [Consumer, On the Move]
- Friday, December 7, 2012, 9:21 AM Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (GMCR) moves up 2.4% premarket, adding just a bit more credence to the theory that heavily-shorted stocks will see late year rallies spurred by hedge funds trimming their short positions. Will Lululemon, Tesla Motors, and SodaStream follow suit? Comment!
- Wednesday, December 5, 2012, 8:45 AM Shares of Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (GMCR +7.9%) edge higher in premarket trading, up 0.9%, as nothing alarming over competitive pressure has flowed out of the Starbucks Investor Conference (recaps: I, II) just yet. If anything, it appears Starbucks has its fingers in so many pies that the single-serve coffee market is only a minor focus. Comment! [Consumer, On the Move]
- Tuesday, December 4, 2012, 1:14 PM Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (GMCR +1.7%) is off to $50 a share, according to a majority of respondents to a MarketWatch poll. The heavily-shorted stock has doubled since hitting the summertime blues to the delight of celebratory bulls, although buyers of the stock in 2011 are still largely underwater. Traders will keep an eye on the Starbucks Investor Conference tomorrow to see if anything noteworthy on the single-serve market is disclosed. 1 Comment [Consumer]
- Thursday, November 29, 2012, 1:03 PM While the buzz over Black Friday numbers grabs too many headlines, the underlying current of which products are generating positive consumer response is important to track. Some under-the-radar items on the move per industry insiders: Boots (think Decker's Outdoor), skinny jeans (think Abercrombie & Fitch and American Eagle Outfitters), and pricey kitchen electronics (think Green Mountain Coffee Roasters and SodaStream). 2 Comments [Consumer]

Midday top 10 gainers: VRML +34%. SHS +32%. GMCR +24%. SPMD +18%. TROV +17%. GPOR +16%. IDIX +15%. TSL +15%. KCG +14%. AXR +12%.
Midday top 10 Losers: UTI -24%. CLUB -21%. CFNB -16%. GENE -15%. TFM -14%. CBAK -13%. SBGI -12%. DWCH -13%. NFEC -11%. CAP -9%. 2 Comments [On the Move] - Wednesday, November 28, 2012, 11:08 AM Nuggets from Green Mountain Coffee Roasters' (GMCR +24.3%) conference call: 1) A nonplussed attitude on Starbucks from execs is fairly evidence as they dance around the competitive impact on GMCR's business model. On the SBUX partnership: "...still multiyear from this current point in time." 2) On inventory jumps, execs say the total was fairly evenly split between raw materials and finished goods. 3) Is the company looking at a potential gold mine with online channels? In FY12, Keurig.com saw 23M visitors and placed 3M web orders. The conversion rate of 13% doesn't sound shabby compared to retail rivals. (transcript, slides) 1 Comment [Consumer]

Comment! [On the Move] - Wednesday, November 28, 2012, 7:16 AM Here come the analysts. After Green Mountain Coffee Rosters (GMCR) beat the profit estimates of analysts by a comfortable margin in FQ4 a rush of investment firms are adjusting their view on the coffee market player. Canaccord Genuity ups its price target to $45 from $39, while Piper Jaffray plays catch-up to lift its PT to $34 from $25. William Blair thinks shares are still reasonably priced even after the rally. Herb Greenberg isn't playing along however, noting GMCR's "beat" still falls short of early 2012 guidance. 9 Comments [Consumer]

- Tuesday, November 27, 2012, 4:10 PM More on Green Mountain Coffee Roasters' (GMCR) FQ4: Shareholders finally get the healthy earnings report they were looking for with sales of single serve packs growing 59% Y/Y to $2.71B and brewer revenue adding 45% to reach $759.8M. The firm sees Q1 EPS of $0.62 -$0.67 vs. $0.59 consensus. FY13 sales growth reiterated at 15%-20%. Conference call scheduled for 4:00 PM EST. Shares +19.2% AH to $34.59. - Tuesday, November 27, 2012, 4:02 PM Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (GMCR): FQ4 EPS of $0.64 beats by $0.16. Revenue of $946.7M (+33% Y/Y) beats by $43M. Shares +15.4% AH. (PR) 3 Comments [Earnings, Consumer, On the Move]
- Tuesday, November 27, 2012, 8:23 AM Shares of Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (GMCR) head into the release of the firm's FQ4 earnings with a nice little head of steam, up 16.5% over the last five trading sessions. Although plenty of bears are still around to rain on GMCR's parade, the company has navigated the loss of its K-Cup patent exclusivity and the entry of Starbucks' Verismo machine into the market with less turmoil than expected. While earnings are in focus, traders will also pay close attention to the firm's conference call for clues as to the direction new CEO Brian Kelley may take the firm. The glory days are back. FSLR up 24% and GMCR up 30%. Hard to buy either at this point though. - View all 8 replies

Bill Maurer: By a quick calculation, they are guiding net margins down like 2-3 full percentage points for Q4. I think it is a sign of things to come. -

GMCR investors, I would not believe the hype...IMHO this is not a good long-term play...stick to true brands and moats: SBUX, PNRA, etc. - View all 4 replies

J. A. Saglimbeni: I think I will make my SBUX coffee with a real " old fashion" machine and get a nice sandwich at PNRA.... -

Bill Maurer: My article is now out. One thing to point out. The share count has risen dramatically in years, so it's not a true buyback. -
