Investing in Molybdenum [view article]
would you please send me the molybdenum plant equipment list with a brief description ReplyGeneral Discussion on GMO
I spotted GMO two years ago. Bought a little bit at $4. What caught my attention was most Board members had prior associations with major mining companies. I felt they wouldn't waste their time with some start-up with no revenue. Then I read the Company was moving it's head office to Denver ( a major mining town) and more importantly replaced their accounting firm with a big four firm. Clearly a costly move but necessary if you are getting serious. Then I read their feasibility study, published on their web site. I had been a banker for thirty-four years at Chase and have financed many mining companies. But we had Technical Directors (mining engineers) on the staff to interpret just this kind of information. However being retired, I had no access to mining expertize. Then I read that two of the smartest steel companies in the world planned to invest a total of $240 million in the Company. Clearly they had read trhat feasibilty report vrey carefully. Step by step the Company is following the classic path of a well thought-out project finance opportunity. Nobody would invest this kind of money in a small start-up if they didn't see great potential.. Also look at the ownerhip and insider buying over the past two years, The people who know this Company best are clearly putting up their own money. I realize the stock is not going to do much until the Company actually goes into production. I believe the patient investor will be well rewarded. Tom Cavey ReplyIs It Finally Time to Buy Moly? TC is a great company with capable management and their production of moly will only increase in the next year (as well as moly price I believe). Now is an opportunity to load up on it, the fundamentals are there, I bought it at $6 and watched it jump to $25 overnight. The price now just reflects funds having to liquidate because of too much momentum in commodities/natural resources, not the true inherent value that TC has as a moly only producer in the US and Canada. Wait till the full weight of China bears upon us and see the results in moly sales and profits, TC's stock price will go up way before you see the headlines so put your toes in and start building a position any way you can, you won't regret it! Thanks for the TC post. Look at associate in venture, plus all the other ventures they are in. ReplyIs It Finally Time to Buy Moly? [view article]

Clearly there *is* money to be made in Moly. The conclusion he draws is tangential to the real conclusion that ought to be taken from this: we *should* get into Moly...but...not just *any* producer. The place to make the money is the miner(s) who are first to get their production up, before the pricing curve turns the other direction again.I'm long FCX...for this and for exposure to copper (housing will rebound and then we're going parabolic, baby!).

Dude--think you missed the boat here! As you clearly point out, the supply/demand profile is very favorable, but in your final nalysis, you say that you would stay clear of moly stocks--ARE YOU KIDDING me????Have you taken the time to look at the stock prices-they are immensely undervalued.
You make all these great poits, but then you come up with the opposite conclusion-just utterly not brilliant! Reply

I've owned GMO for about a year now, They have a very rich find, have buyers, equipment seems to be on schedule, but they have not as yet produced an ounce. So while the future is bright, I'm going to wait until the chart improves. Reply

'Clearly, there are a lot of high expectations built into the moly industry.'Hm, well, the industry obviously expects the bull market to last for quite some time. But what about the stocks? Thompson creek sits at almost an 18 month low trading at a TTM p7e of 12 and a forward one in the single digits. That#s not what I would call high expectations built in - at least not into the stock price.
fact is, they have been slaughtered along with most other miners. Are they cyclical? of course. is new supply coming , you bet. But what are they priced for? well, for global recession and end of the minerals and commoddities boom.
problem is, demand will continue top outstrip supply based on the non-cyclical longer term trends that you mentioned (oil pipelines, nuclear, emerging markets infrastructure build-out).
I could understand your hesitation if the stocks were sitting on multiyear highs. But they aren't.
surprises in their stock prices will be to the upside - not to the downside, imho. Reply

Nice article, very informative.Just one question though. If the aircraft industry is set to do so well in 2008/2009, then why is TIE trading at $10 instead of $30? Also how do you explain the decline in TIE's revenue on a YOY basis?
Basically both questions are the same. Could it be that previous consumption estimates are exaggerated? Would the same apply to rhenium?
