    • Shares of Vitamin Shoppe (VSI -1.9%) and GNC Holdings (GNC -0.8%) slip lower in what appears to be a reaction to competitive threat posed by the acquisition of Vitacost.com (VITC +27.1%) by Kroger (KR -0.2%).
    • Retail analysts think deal looks like a strategic fit for Kroger with the e-commerce platform and linked fulfillment centers form Vitacost giving it plenty of new growth channels.

    GNC Holdings (GNC +11.8%) soars following its Q2 earnings report. Revenue growth by segment: Retail, +9.6%; Franchise, +6.8%; Manufacturing/Wholesale, +11.1%. Comps growth for the period at company-owned and franchise-operated stores comes in at 6.8% and 5.2% respectively. The company says its Gold Card Member Pricing program rollout is complete and the financial impact is included in guidance. Outlook: Q3 and Q4 comps growth in the high single-digits at domestic company-owned stores and FY13 EPS of $2.83-2.88. Consensus is $2.80/ share. (PR)

    More on GNC Holdings (GNC): Shares slide 3.14% premarket as the company's top line comes in shy of estimates. Additionally, FY13 EPS guidance is unchanged at $2.75-2.80 meaning the company will have to hit the top end of the range to meet consensus expectations. Revenue rises in all segments during the quarter and comps growth was 1.9% and 3.2% for company-owned and franchise locations respectively, as the Easter holiday shift shaved off 100 basis points.     GNC Holdings (GNC +7.3%) trades higher on bullish guidance in spite of posting a mixed Q4, beating on its bottom line but missing on top line results. The company expects FY13 EPS of $2.75 - $2.80, above the Street view of $2.71, with revenues projected to grow 9% - 10%.
