- Thursday, May 16, 5:56 PM GT Advanced (GTAT +3.1%) has acquired "substantially all of the business" of Thermal Technology, a developer of thermal/vacuum equipment used to touchscreens, LEDs, medical devices, and other products. GT is issuing 3.4M shares (current value of $14.6M) to buy Thermal. The company asserts Thermal's annealing tech will help it develop sapphire manufacturing gear, and its spark plasma sintering tech has medical, space, and hybrid car applications. This seems an effort to diversify a bit from the slumping LED/solar equipment markets. Comment! [Tech, M&A]
- Friday, April 29, 2011, 9:37 AM Total’s (TOT +0.2%) $1.37B offer for SunPower (SPWRA +36.5%) lifts other solar stocks, responding to the deal’s fat premium and the notion that oil giants may be interested in buying solar companies. FSLR +3.3%, CSIQ +4.5%, LDK +3.8%, JASO +3.9%, TSL +2.9%, ASTI +3.2%, SOLR +2.8%. 2 Comments [Energy, M&A, On the Move]

vireoman: 2x does not a monster make. However, being a shareholder, I'll take it. I added shares yesterday, but only a nominal amount. -
Zach Tripp: I was looking at more recent volume, 1.5-2.5. Yesterday was 5.8.

Anyone happen to know what's driven $GTAT up 16% over the past day and a half? Not that I'm complaining... Just curious. - View all 3 replies
-
DumpsterDiver: Ah. Thank you very much! (In at 3.15 here, and yeah, I wish I'd noticed it a little sooner or made that initial purchase a little larger...) -
DumpsterDiver: ...And a week later, the merry-go-round is right back where it started. Whee, that was fun.
