As an investor of pink sheets, i would like to defend myself as well as give some credit to the author. I applaud your detective work on the growth stock guru...before investing in any stock, especially a penny stock, you must research your sources and companies thoroughly...But there are some pink sheet stocks that are worth buying, and I only know this because i researched my source and now have a long-time trust relationship...

    -Cheers!

You have to wonder about the desperation for ad dollars or maybe ad dollars are so much greater than the potential for lost subscribers and/or credibility. Case in point - why does IBD run full length ads for competing services like gorillatrades and vector vest. Never understood that. The GZGT promotion is even more bewildering. It would be nice to hear a statement from at least one of these publications! Reply

I've always felt that IBD was a great publication. The research that they do is really amazing. Given how much money they spend protecting their credibility, I find it shocking that they would allow this penny stock ad to run, without at least doing some due diligence on the company. When publishing an ad in your publication can move the stock price, editors need to think about the ethical implications behind that. Even more importantly, they need to research the company and make sure it's a quality company. IBD should be ashamed of themselves. Still no public apology from them. They have lost a lot of credibility in my mind. Reply

Thank you for this excellent expose. I generally ignore "penny stocks," so I was unaware of the ad in IBD (to which I subscribe). In any case, I read IBD selectively, flipping through its editorial pages. omooc Reply

Outstanding investigative journalism Davis. As you said, yes these kind of unscrupulous business practices, deals go on all the time and more needs to be done about it. What's so striking about this particular pump and dump is the incredible irresponsibility of Business Week, Fortune, Forbes and Investors Business Daily by running these full page ads. What were they thinking!? ..and why in the heck was Kiplingers the only major media outlet to pick this up? This is important and it absolutely should not happen again. Reply

Guangzhou Global Telecom: Spam Stock Tips Go Postal [view article]
Nope Kerry, I have no financial interest in seeing the company succeed or fail. I don't actually like shorting stocks, too much bad karma and I don't like taking unlimited risk. Feel free to look through my past posts and you'll see that I've never thought very highly of stock spam. If I was going to short something, you can bet that it would be a large cap or a midcap stock through. Too much downside risk in trying to bet against a microcap company. I could be right about the valuation and it could still go up because someone is pimping it. If you'd like to help me better understand why the fundamentals justify such a lofty valuation, I'm all ears, but even if GZGT was the real deal (which I don't think that it is), I would still question the wisdom of trying to buy during the middle (or end?) of a mass marketing campaign. People are playing a dangerous game of musical chairs right now. As long as new buyers keep coming in, people will keep playing, but once support for the stock falls, you'll hear a massive sucking sound as that money gets pulled off the table. If you want to gamble with your own money that's fine, but between the auditor issues, the pumping that is going on and the questions being raised by other journalists, I think that this is one opportunity that investors may be better off taking a pass on. I'm sorry if you disagree with my opinion, but I suspect that I'm a lot less biased on this issue than you might be. Reply

Sorry Davis, GZGT is very much for real.

Most people who receive a "piece of spam" via the postal mail simply throw it in the garbage. Thus, I suspect your are naked short the stock or have some other direct or indirect interest. Hopefully, you are not for the welfare of your wallet.

GZGT will eventually push through $2.25 which is the "squeeze trigger" price for 3.1 million short shares of GZGT. Note where the strong resistance is/was on Tues., 6/5/07. You guessed it, $2.25
