    Hospital shares are weak in early trading, after HCA's (HCA -14%) disappointing Q2 results serve as a "harbinger of bad things to come" for the sector this quarter, a Jefferies note says. Hospitals continue to struggle, as Americans who lost their jobs and health insurance avoid all but the most urgent medical care. Also: CYH -4.3%, THC -4%, HMA -3.4%.

    HCA (HCA) continues to fall premarket after missing earnings expectations. CEO Richard Bracken says the company "experienced a shift in service mix from more complex surgical cases to less acute medical cases," resulting in lower revenue and earnings growth. Shares -14.4%.

    IPOs are off to their strongest start since 2000, with yesterday's $3.8B offering for HCA bringing 2011 IPO volume to $12.5B. There have been more IPOs this year than in 2008, 2009 and 2010 combined. Others include DMD, NLSN, KMI, INXN and GEVO.

    The first day of trading for HCA (HCA +3.4%), now the largest publicly-traded hospital chain in the U.S., brings green in a market sea of red after completing a record $3.79B private equity-backed IPO. Demand for shares was four times larger than HCA had originally expected.

    HCA Holdings (HCA) raised $3.8B in its IPO despite the hospital operator's substantial debt. The issue was the largest ever U.S. P-E backed offering and could encourage P-E firms to carry out IPOs of investments made at the height of the credit bubble.

    HCA Inc. (HCA) and Crown Castle (CCI) are selling $2.6B in junk bonds today - the biggest offering since June of last year. Investors are adding to high-yield funds because they're getting paid 'pretty well' to wait out the recession, one fund manager says.
