- Tuesday, May 21, 12:59 PM Five of 2013's biggest tech high-flyers - SolarCity (SCTY -10.1%), Himax (HIMX -6%), UniPixel (UNXL -9.1%), SunPower (SPWR -5.2%), and Ubiquiti (UBNT -4.4%), are seeing heavy losses today. Netflix (NFLX -0.9%), another big 2013 winner, is down moderately. Is this a sign tech momentum investors are looking to take some cash off the table? YTD gains: SCTY +287%. HIMX +200%. UNXL +72%. SPWR +282%. UBNT +56%. NFLX +156%. Comment! [Tech, On the Move]
- Wednesday, May 15, 1:39 PM The Himax Express (HIMX +13.1%) refuses to slow down: shares are storming to new multi-year highs in the absence of major news. This morning, rival eMagin (EMAN +3.2%) announced its Color OLED-XLS microdisplay line, which it claims is 4x as bright as "the current industry standard," and consumes half as much power for a given level of brightness as eMagin's current offerings. Himax's short interest has been growing - it rose from a mere 100K shares on Feb. 15 to 1.5M shares on June 30 - but still amounts to just a small fraction of its float. (yesterday) Comment! [Tech, On the Move]
- Tuesday, May 14, 2:16 PM Himax (HIMX +7.3%) is shooting higher yet again, and is close to its 52-week high of $7.10. SA contributor Proprietary Trading has made a bull case that declares the adoption of higher-resolution smartphone/tablet displays represents a major growth opportunity for the company, thanks to its growing mobile driver IC ops. Investor attention has been focused more on Himax's LCOS microdisplay business (and a possible Google Glass design win). 2 Comments [Tech, On the Move]
- Tuesday, May 7, 11:23 AM After posting a Q1 beat yesterday afternoon, Himax (HIMX +4.7%) guides this morning for Q2 revenue to increase 17%-20% Q/Q, and for Q2 EPS of $0.111-$0.121 - that beats a consensus for a 15% rev. increase and EPS of $0.10. The numbers are helping shares rally once again; they're up 161% YTD. Also possibly helping: a 130 bps Q/Q and 170 bps Y/Y increase in gross margin to 24.6%, and a 7% Q/Q and 26% Y/Y increase in sales of display drivers for small/medium-sized panels (now 52% of revenue) thanks to strong smartphone-related demand. Sales of drivers for larger panels fell 16% Y/Y, and non-driver product sales rose 6%. Comment! [Tech, Earnings, On the Move]

Premarket gainers: IQNT +34%. MSPD +31%. TRLA +14%. FIRE +12%. JRCC +11%. CAAS +8%. DWA +9%. GDOT +8%. CAVM +8%. NAVB +5%.
Losers: HIMX -9%. ELGX -8%. SWI -8%. Comment! [On the Move] - Tuesday, April 30, 7:21 PM Himax (HIMX) -8.2% AH after filing an F-3 that will allow the company and top customer Innolux to respectively sell 25.5M and 25.4M shares (collectively 30% of outstanding shares) in future public offerings; no offering is planned for now. Himax's huge run-up over the last 6 months likely has something to do with the filing. Q1 results arrive on May 7. (PR) 6 Comments [Tech, On the Move]

After-hours top gainers, as of 5:15 p.m.: MSPD +29%. GPRE +16%. IQNT +14%. RATE +12%. FIRE +10%.
After-hours top losers: SWI -8%. HIMX -8%. BGC -7%. NSPR -6%. UNTD -6%. Comment! [On the Move] - Tuesday, April 16, 10:00 AM The specs for the first version of Google Glass are out: the device can take 5MP photos and record 720p video, has Bluetooth and 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi radios, and 16GB of storage. Google (GOOG +0.5%) claims a battery life of 1 day with normal use, and states viewing Glass' display is equal to watching a 25" HD screen from 8 feet away. Google has also begun rolling out Glass apps in Google Play, and has prohibited developers (for now, at least) from including ads in their apps, or charging for them. Himax (HIMX +7.7%), a rumored Glass supplier, seems to be getting a lift. (previous) 3 Comments [Tech, On the Move]
- Friday, April 12, 11:03 AM Himax (HIMX -7.2%) gives back some of this year's huge gains after SA contributor Dividend Monkey offers a short case. Among the author's arguments: there's still no confirmation Himax's LCOS panels are designed into Google Glass (previous), rivals such as Kopin (KOPN) and Epson have better technology, the display chip market is very cyclical, Himax's EV/EBITDA multiple of 12.5x is well above that of peers, one customer (Chimei Innolux) accounts for 31.8% of revenue, and there are still big questions about just how popular Glass will be. 1 Comment [Tech, On the Move]

After-hours top gainers, as of 5:15 p.m.: STAA +13%. JCP +12%. HIMX +2%. GLUU +1%. EBR +1%.
After-hours top losers: CWH -3%. CUZ -3%. SHLM -3%. STWD -3%. CECO -2%. 1 Comment [On the Move] - Tuesday, April 2, 11:17 AM A bullish Wedge Partners note leads Himax (HIMX +9.6%) to make new 52-week highs yet again. Wedge asserts Himax has scored deals with Microsoft, Sony, and Samsung, and thinks the company should beat Q1 estimates. Shares now +133% YTD, thanks in large part to Google Glass hopes. Comment!
