- Thursday, April 25, 7:47 AM More on Harley-Davidson's (HOG) Q1: Worldwide sales of motorcycles dropped 9.1% Y/Y to 54,254 with sales in the U.S. off 12.7%. Despite the drop in revenue, the vibe from H-D is positive as profitability was improved during the quarter, success was seen in broadening sales to first-time customers, and the weather excuse plays. The company expects to ship 259K to 264K motorcycles to dealers and distributors worldwide this year. HOG +1.1% premarket. (PR) Comment! [Consumer, Earnings, On the Move]
- Wednesday, January 30, 8:08 AM Goldman Sachs takes a swipe at Harley-Davidson (HOG), cutting its rating on the company to Neutral and removing it from its Americas buy list. The firm thinks shares are topped out after running up 24% since October. HOG -1.1% premarket. Comment! [Consumer, On the Move]
- Tuesday, January 29, 7:27 AM More on Harley-Davidson's (HOG) Q4: The firm's retail sales increased 7.5% Y/Y, with unit sales up 8.4% in the U.S. and 6.3% higher in global markets. Gross margin rose 60 bps to 31.8% during the quarter. The motorcycle seller expects to ship 259K-264M units in 2013, up 4.5%-6.5% from last year. HOG -2.3% premarket. (PR) Comment! [Earnings, Consumer, On the Move]
- Tuesday, December 11, 2012, 10:52 AM Shares of Harley-Davidson (HOG +1.6%) strike higher with rumors out that the company hired a strategic advisor to search for ways to unlock value. On the fundamental front, December sales will be in focus with European rivals stepping up their marketing campaigns in the U.S., while Harley-Davidson rolls out special-edition models in front of the holiday shopping season. Comment! [Consumer, On the Move]
- Wednesday, August 1, 2012, 10:00 AM Shares of Harley-Davidson (HOG) fall 10.4% despite the company beating the estimate of analysts with its Q2 report. Weak dealer sales and the company's outlook for the rest of the year has traders edgy. 1 Comment [On the Move, Consumer]
- Wednesday, July 11, 2012, 10:04 AM Harley-Davidson (HOG -4.1%) falters a bit after Citigroup comes out with a note forecasting the company's motorcycle sales may have slowed down in June. Though Q2 sales growth is now estimated to be in a 4%-5% range, compared to the stellar 26% pace in Q1, the up-and-down nature of motorcycle sales has analysts keeping a bullish tone on the name for now. Comment! [Consumer, On the Move]
- Friday, May 11, 2012, 11:10 AM Harley-Davidson (HOG -4.7%) trades lower after Citi warns that its channel checks indicate April and early May motorcycle sale slowed significantly to a 1%-3% range after skyrocketing 29% in March. The full-May/June numbers may tell the true story due to the volatile nature of motorcycle buying trends. Comment! [Consumer, On the Move]
- Wednesday, April 25, 2012, 3:40 PM UBS issues cautious comments on Harley Davidson (HOG +5.9%) despite the motorcyle maker's seemingly strong Q1 report and subsequent rally. Analysts with the firm warn that the company shipped everything they produced during the period and dealer inventory trended higher despite the strong sales numbers. 3 Comments [On the Move, Consumer]

[On the Move] - Friday, April 20, 2012, 3:20 PM Longbow Research tips off that The Motorcycle Industry Council is out with data showing that Harley-Davidson's (HOG +2.2%) retail sales shot up 26% during Q1, well-above the 17% the Street was expecting. The sales growth total marks Harley's best quarter since Q3 2003. Shares of HOG hit a 52-week high off of trading stirred up in part by the rosy report. Comment! [On the Move]
- Tuesday, March 20, 2012, 7:42 AM BMO Capital raises its rating on Harley-Davidson (HOG) to Outperform from Market Perform on its take that early season sales are "robust" for the motorcycle maker. The firm also lifts its price target on HOG all the way up to $60 from $39. Shares +0.8% premarket. Comment! [On the Move]
- Monday, March 12, 2012, 10:42 AM Harley-Davidson (HOG +2.6%) shares hit a 52-week high after Citigroup raises its price target on the motorcycle maker to $50 from $46, citing solid sales momentum. The firm’s dealer checks indicate HOG’s U.S. retail sales are up 16%-18% January through early March, but keeps its Hold rating. Comment! [Consumer, On the Move]
- Thursday, November 17, 2011, 10:34 AM A dealership survey conducted by Robert Baird finds that the inventory of new Harley-Davidson (HOG -3.5%) motorcycles is at its lowest point in 10 years. Though reduced inventory can help support pricing and brand value for HOG bikes, it's a delicate tightrope the company walks between sacrificing revenue to achieve a "scarcity" value. 1 Comment [On the Move]
- Friday, November 11, 2011, 4:39 PM A Harley-Davidson (HOG +4.9%) dealer in St. Paul, Minnesota is suing the motorcycle maker in federal court. The lawsuit claims the company's restrictions on international sales by U.S. dealers and sales through third-party websites are unfair, and illegally alter the company's franchise agreement with dealers. Comment! [Consumer, On the Move]
- Friday, October 21, 2011, 11:42 AM Shares of Harley-Davidson (HOG), up 5.3%, shrug off word that Goldman Sachs lowered its price target to $44, saying higher operating costs could hit earnings. Analysts with the firm now see EPS for FY11, FY12, and FY13 moving down to $2.28, $3.04, and $3.56, respectively. HOG now trades close to its pre-Q3 report level from earlier this week. Comment! [On the Move]
- Tuesday, October 18, 2011, 9:58 AM Shares of Polaris Industries (PII) tail off 6.5%, despite knocking out a triple play with its Q3 earnings report. The earnings miss and gloomy outlook from Harley-Davidson (HOG -7.6%) may be spilling over to taint shares of PII. 1 Comment [On the Move]
