General Discussion on HOG
The question is can an MV annoy civilians sitting outside at a cafe on a Sunday with loud pipes. If yes, then MV belongs in the HOG family. If another person who wants to talk to me about motorcycling tells me how they "almost" did something stupid and bought a Harley their neighbor/cousin/friend... tried to sell them, I will... I don't know what. Reply

I don't know much about MV either' There are a couple bikes floating around this area. I'am not sure which models. They look good design wise.It is my understanding that you have to pay a lot [more ] to own one compared to others in its class. there again is that boutique image. Reply

I saw this some weeks ago. If I were Harley, I would want to be buying all the motorcycle expertise I could. Their flogged V-twin will not carry this company much further.Don't know much about MG, but my impression was that this was akin to BMW buying Husquverna (sp?). Big fish gobbling little fish and not much impact to bottom line. More strategic than anything immediately of benefit. Reply

Aparrently I'am out of the loop on my news .I found many a comment on this story just by typing in Harley Davidson and MV AGUSTA . Auto blog was the easy one. Reply

An associate of mine just came back from Italy last month and said that he read a story in one of the news papers about some advanced talks with MV Agusta. How strong all of this is Iam not sure. I did not insert this story to create a stir of any kind. but could this be a big plus for the future. MV AGUSTA would carry a status symbol . Reply

Due to the fact of a copy right on this story I will not duplicate, but apparently HD has made an offer on MV Agusta who is in financial trouble. ReplyGeneral Discussion on HOG
Let's regroup after Q2 earnings results are released on July 17. In the meantime, I remain pessimistic. ReplyGeneral Discussion on HOG
Continue to stay in business? Are you serious? You will have to make a case for that idea. This ain't the Yahoo Finance board.I admit, being a rider I scratch my head at the prices they charge for the full-size Harleys. These are conversation pieces for the wealthy. They are a full $10K over-priced. Maybe $8K. But aside from the rich, I question the sanity in someone dropping the cash for one of these. Reply

Sorry, I meant HELOC's (Home Equity Lines Of Credit). Those are being pulled by the banks even for people who have great credit. Together with the certain difficulty of offloading their packaged loans, I cannot imagine how they will continue to stay in business. ReplyGeneral Discussion on HOG
What are HOLOCs? Are those the securitized debt instruments they were selling to third-parties?By the way, I say an airplane banner ad at the beach in L.A. for the local HOG dealership promoting a sales drive and claiming (I think) 52 m.p.g. This idea about HOGs as a cost-saving device is amazing! It is like buying a $5,000 coupon for $20,000. What savings!

I have to believe that sales will plummet with the loss of HOLOC's and with HD Financial unable to offload it's worsening CDO Loans. HD Financial does the financing for 50% of all sales. No, I think that this will be another major downside surprise as investors come to realize that a Harley is a luxury with demand ins steep decline, not a fuel-efficient alternative to a car. Yes, it is always a question how plugged up the channel is. Channel-stuffing in the dealerships has been a practice with HOG -- a practice they claim they are ending. If they really want to hide slowing sales, they could take advantage of the large size of the dealerships. For example, my local HOG dealership has huge ceilings -- maybe 30-feet high. They could easily add an extra floor in the building, double their inventory and not increase their motorcycle per square foot ratio. (Hehe.)

Mallarde. one unit = one motorcycle ,so in the Europe market ten thousand one hundred fourty nine bikes were shipped to dealers in the first QTR . How many have been sold by the dealers at this time I don't know. ReplyGeneral Discussion on HOG
What units are those in? Percentages? Or millions? No way billions.I always think of Levi's, for some reason, when I think of Harley selling overseas. They are selling a classic American brand, not a vehicle. It's a symbol of freedom and capitalism. It is also priced at a premium.
