    LyondellBasell (LYB +5.7%) extends yesterday's gains sparked by a Barron's report that the hedge fund favorite was named as one of the chemical companies with most upside potential. But chemical names are strong across the board today, perhaps from speculation that a regulatory ruling could open up a move to an MLP structure: WLK +7.7%, DOW +5.3%, HUN +3%.

    Textile dyer maker Huntsman (HUN +2.5%) says it is considering several options for expansion of its Geismar plant to boost the output of methylene diphenyl diisocyanate, a chemical compound is used to produce polyurethane foams, to satisfy rising demand for foam insulation and to take advantage of cheaper natural-gas supplies.

    Huntsman (HUN +3.9%) agrees to buy full ownership of Huntsman NMG, its Russian joint venture with NMG, a major supplier of polyurethane systems to the adhesives, coatings and footwear markets in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus.

    In addition to downgrading DuPont, Jefferies reduces its earnings estimates for chemical maker Huntsman (HUN -3.7%) due to expectations for rising costs among pigments and sinking demand for HUN's products in Europe and Asia. The firm leaves its Hold rating unchanged but cuts its target price to $14.50 from $16.

    Huntsman (HUN) -2.1% premarket after shares are downgraded to Hold from Buy at KeyBanc: "While continued positive trends in U.S. architectural and housing markets should have some positive impact, more significant improvement in results will require a reversal in trends in Europe and developing markets, such as China, where growth rates are slowing."
