Although there has been a recent pullback in share value I still maintain that this is a buying opportunity.
Let's take a macro look at this.. a company that producers wafers for sun powered energy, a new market on the move with a P/E of around 20.. that's a P/E we're used to seeing for companies in more established sectors. The reason for this is that WFR is simply a well run company with outstanding financials!
ROE is at 39% - this company has zero debt. Revenues are growing at a nice 14% quarterly rate..
And the greatest news is that this company creates solar wafers from... beach sand that is readily available in Florida... that's why the company shows gross profits of $1 billion on $2 billion in sales. Sounds like a sweet deal to me.

    Mr. Dion:

    Very good article.

However, I think there is less risk in a careful selection of chip stocks (and topnotch techs) than in the energy and commodity sector—at least over the next few months.

I recently sold my positions in the former sectors and retrenched in, for the most part, the tech sector.

Some of those techs are, and not all are chips, as follows: ADI, CSCO, GIGM, GLW, GRMN, LRCX, MSFT, NOK, NTE, NTES, NVDA, TXN.

As you have surely noticed, almost no one at this time is interested in Class A tech stocks; only a few risky, low-priced long-shot ones.

E.g., I'm the only one commenting on your excellent research and work. It's because the Big Houses and their touts are pointing everyone toward energy and commodities.

That will soon blow up, and the mementum players will have to light somewhere. A good bet would be tech, although I don't care where they go.

    Your comment would be appreciated.

But DELL is more of a manufacturing company... therefore most manufacturers have considerable long term debt due to the plant, parts, on-hand inventory for components... But DELL's ratio is higher than it should be! Reply

Has anyone checked the facts ? Under Yahoo finance key statistics many of the above high debt to equity actually had very nominal debt, nowhere near the levels in the article Reply

One other comment: v interesting to see Dell with a high debt-to-equity ratio. That will certainly get the value guys to sit up. Reply

This is interesting, because it's a kind of "reverse value stock" approach -- avoid companies with high cash-per-share. I guess the logic is that if cash accounts for most of the company's earnings, it shows that there isn't much of a real business there other than the cash.

As if MOT doesn't have enough problems already.

Trident Micro's Likely to Be Snapped Up by a Larger Competitor [view article]
Good analysis. I would even venture to say prescient. I don't follow the sector too closely, but based on the Genesis buyout and post-buyout comments by the Lehman Brothers analyst, you probably hit the nail square on the head. Trident should be next on the auction block. Has Goldman Sachs covered it's short position yet and will they be firing more bullets at this? Reply

Ko, you credibility stops as soon as you lists NVDA as TRID's competitor. Are you on crack? Nvidia is in the chipset and video card business. Trident is in the LCD controller business like Genesis GNSS.

Let me point out the real purpose of this article. I remember just last week that they blogged about how Nvidia would buy AMD. I guess Doug Fubaredman and his NVDA shorts are desperate. Who is next? Nvidia to buy AAPL, INTC, IBM, MSFT, YHOO?

How in the world do you arrive at the conclusion that TRID is trading at a significant discount to its peers? GNSS is trading approximately at cash value, with enterprise value of approximately zero. Pixelworks is trading at a discount to cash value. NVDA and IDTI are not peers - neither company is involved in the flat panel TV market. Do your homework and quit using this site as a means to pump your position, which I would guess approximates the Titanic in terms of how far underwater it is. Reply
