- Wednesday, June 5, 9:42 AM Deutsche's Nandan Amladi is a busy man this morning. In addition to downgrading VMware to Hold, he's cutting Microsoft (MSFT -1.1%), Intuit (INTU -1%), and RealPage (RP -1.3%) to Hold, and upgrading Informatica (INFA +1.4%) to Buy. Regarding Microsoft, Amladi thinks "the risk/reward is neutral" at a valuation of 8x calendar 2014E EPS (exc. cash). Comment! [Tech]
- Thursday, May 16, 12:16 PM Cisco JV partner EMC (EMC +4.5%) joins the list of companies rallying in response to Cisco's FQ3 beat and guidance. Cisco mentioned on its earnings call integrated hardware solutions such as Vblock (offered by the Cisco/EMC VCE JV) are driving demand for its UCS servers - Cisco's UCS unit saw 77% Y/Y rev. growth. All in all, it's a good day for enterprise IT names, who are happy to receive some good earnings news after getting plenty of bad news (I, II, III, IV). HPQ +1.7%. IBM +1.3%. ORCL +1.3%. VMW +2.6%. TIBX +4.1%. CTXS +3.9%. CRM +3.8%. JIVE +4.1%. NTGR +2.7%. CVLT +2.6%. INFA +3%. (others rallying: I, II) 1 Comment [Tech, On the Move]
- Tuesday, April 30, 2:20 PM Informatica (INFA -3%), Splunk (SPLK -1.9%), and Qlik (QLIK -3%), 3 names hyped as analytics/big data plays, slump in response to Microstrategy's (MSTR -11.1%) big Q1 miss, which includes a 24% Y/Y drop in produce license revenue. As is its custom, the business intelligence software vendor gives no reason for its miss, nor does it provide guidance or an earnings call. It is, however, happy to note its buyback program ($455M remaining) has been extended to April 2018. Microstrategy's numbers are overshadowing solid results from rival Actuate (BIRT +6.2%); the company posted 16% Y/Y Q1 license rev. growth, compared with nearly flat total rev. growth. Comment! - Friday, April 26, 11:54 AM For the second quarter in a row (previous), Informatica (INFA +5.9%) is jumping post-earnings. In addition to beating Q1 estimates, the data warehousing software firm guided on its earnings call for 2013 revenue of $885M-$925M and EPS of $1.31-$1.46 vs. a consensus of $885.3M and $1.40. Q2 guidance, affected by sales/R&D investments, is for revenue of $215M-$225M and EPS of $0.29-$0.32 vs. a consensus of $212.5M and $0.32. Deferred revenue rose 6% Q/Q in Q1 to $267M. Teradata (TDC +2.9%) is getting a boost from Informatica, and perhaps also Qlik. Comment! [Tech, Earnings, On the Move]

- Tuesday, April 23, 8:11 AM Informatica (INFA) +1.3% after receiving an upgrade to Neutral from Credit Suisse just two days before its Q1 report arrives. Shares have sold off since mid-March in response to poor earnings and/or guidance from many enterprise software peers (I, II, III) Comment! [Tech]
- Friday, April 5, 9:51 AM The bloodletting in enterprise IT and telecom equipment names that followed F5's March quarter warning yesterday afternoon has spread, with some telecom component/chip names now among the companies getting hit hard. This morning's weak NFP report certainly isn't helping matters. JDSU -5%. CVLT -6.1%. EZCH -4.5%. INFA -3.9%. QLIK -3.9%. MLNX -3.6%. CAVM -8.5%. RKUS -5%. FTNT -3.9%. FNSR -6%. Comment! [Tech, On the Move]
- Friday, March 22, 11:31 AM "Our issues are primarily execution-related," Tibco (TIBX -15.3%) CEO Vivek Ranadive asserts on his company's FQ1 call. He suggests Tibco has "weak leadership" in the Americas and the U.K., and hints at a restructuring. Shares have been hit with 2 downgrades following a revenue miss and light guidance. An 8% Y/Y sales drop in the critical finance vertical and a decline in $1M+ deals offset 50% growth in telecom. Randadive argues Tibco's ability to process both business transactions and events through its middleware/analytics offerings is a key differentiator. INFA -5.6% (previous). QLIK -3.1%. MSTR -2.2%. 1 Comment [Tech, On the Move, Earnings]
- Friday, March 22, 10:20 AM Nomura downgrades Informatica (INFA -3.8%) to Neutral from Buy citing a "less compelling" risk/reward tradeoff. "With [the stock] up 38% over the past six months … we see less incentive to be buyers at this point," analyst Jonathan Hodgkinson said in a note. Comment! [Tech]
- Thursday, March 21, 5:58 PM Tibco (TIBX) guides on its FQ1 call for FQ2 revenue of $242M-$252M and EPS of $0.17-$0.19, below a consensus of $264.8M and $0.26. As was the case following its FQ4 warning, the middleware/analytics software vendor suggests execution issues are playing a role in its troubles. Shares -14.7% AH. INFA -2.1%. TDC -1.4%. QLIK -2.1%. Comment! [Tech, On the Move, Earnings]
- Thursday, March 21, 11:39 AM Evercore and CLSA have downgraded Oracle (ORCL -8.8%) following its FQ3 miss and light top-line guidance. The numbers have many worried about the impact of cloud apps ... and not just on application software sales. "As customers move to the cloud, you get a lot of the functionality consolidated ... so you need less hardware and less databases and middleware," says Pac Crest. UBS is still bullish: "Historically when they have a miss it’s a great time to buy." Interestingly, cloud rivals are higher - WDAY +1.4%, CRM +0.4%, N +1.2% - even as other peers follow the tech sector lower. IBM -1.6%. INFA -1.6%. RHT -1.1%. - Wednesday, March 6, 10:43 AM Tibco (TIBX +10.6%) soars following an upgrade to Buy from BofA/Merrill. The firm had downgraded Tibco to Neutral in December in response to its FQ4 warning. FQ1 results arrive on March 21. Informatica (INFA +1.6%) and Qlik (QLIK +2.3%) might be rising in sympathy. Comment! [Tech, On the Move]
- Friday, February 22, 7:09 PM Informatica (INFA) is helping Workday (WDAY) and NetSuite (N) address one of the main critiques levied at enterprise cloud software firms: that their offerings (unlike traditional end-to-end solutions from the likes of Oracle and SAP) fail to play nice with complementary software. A new integration template from Informatica syncs data between Workday's cloud HR apps and Netsuite's cloud ERP apps in real-time. The announcement comes a week after Informatica unveiled a data connector for Amazon's Redshift service. Comment! [Tech]
