Starting Aug.1 (the beginning of FY14), Intuit will be split into 6 units: Small Business Financial Solutions (QuickBooks, Intuit Payments), Small Business Management Solutions (employee management, Demandforce), Consumer Tax (TurboTax), Consumer Ecosystem (Quicken), Accounting Professionals, and Financial Services (online banking). Wednesday, April 24, 5:06 PM Intuit (INTU) -9% AH after providing disappointing tax season data for its TurboTax products/services, and lowering guidance as a result. The company now expects FQ3 (April quarter) revenue of $2.165B-$2.175B and EPS of $2.92-$2.94, below a consensus of $2.25B and $3.01. FY13 guidance is now for revenue of $4.495B-$4.52B and EPS of $3.31-$3.35, below a consensus of $4.59B and $3.44. Total TurboTax units rose 3% Y/Y over the 2012 season to 25.3M, and TurboTax eFiles rose 4% to 26.5M. Accounting Professionals and Small Business sales are expected to hit prior guidance. Tuesday, January 29, 1:49 PM Intuit (INTU) has acquired the assets of Payvment, a startup offering e-commerce infrastructure and ad-buying services to ~200K merchants relying on Facebook (FB). Payvment's customers have been transferred to rival Ecwid. Payvment's failure is raising fresh questions about Facebook's own ability to profit from e-commerce referral traffic. Though its Gifts product has seen some early uptake, skeptics argue Facebook's news feed (unlike Google searches) doesn't lend itself well to driving e-commerce activity. Comment! [Tech, M&A]
Friday, January 18, 5:58 AM Judge Lucy Koh yesterday ordered Tim Cook to testify in a lawsuit over whether Apple (AAPL), Google (GOOG) and other hi-tech companies breached antitrust laws by agreeing not to try to poach each others' employees. Erich Schmidt is also due to appear in the trial, as is Intel's (INTC) Paul Otellini.
