- Friday, June 14, 10:56 AM Apple is ramping as an InvenSense (INVN +5.4%) customer and the Sep. quarter will be an inflection point for sales, says Piper in a note giving a lift to the motion sensor maker's shares. Pac Crest, Wedge Partners, and most recently Goldman have already reported of an iPhone 5S design win for InvenSense; Goldman added it thinks InvenSense "holds a cost advantage and a clearer roadmap for advanced products" than archrival and historical Apple supplier STMicroelectronics (STM), and also raised the possibility of iPad and low-cost iPhone design wins. 1 Comment [Tech, On the Move, Quick Ideas]

Premarket gainers: RH +13%. PXLW +11%. GRPN +8%. SCTY +8%. SYRG +6%. INVN +6%. ACAD +6%. SWHC +5%.
Losers: CEMP -14%. AMSC -9%. HIMX -7%. CLSN -5%. Comment! [On the Move] - Thursday, June 13, 1:47 PM An InvenSense (INVN +2.4%) motion sensor, a Synaptics (SYNA +0.8%) touch controller, Elpida (MU +2.1%) mobile DRAM, and 16GB of SanDisk (SNDK +0.1%) NAND flash were found during a Google Glass teardown. A Texas Instruments (TXN) app processor was also found, but given TI's planned exit from the mobile processor space, Google will likely go elsewhere for future models. Over the near-term, Glass volumes should amount to a small fraction of those seen for high-volume smartphones, but that could change if prices come down and privacy concerns are addressed. 2 Comments [Tech]
- Tuesday, June 4, 11:30 AM InvenSense (INVN +5.6%) jumps after Maxim reports the company has scored a motion sensor design win for the next version of Google's Nexus 7 - the current model also uses an InvenSense sensor chip. The next-gen 7 is expected to launch this summer, and could be aggressively priced. 3 Comments [Tech, On the Move]
- Thursday, May 30, 4:02 PM Chip stocks close with solid gains (SOXX +1.5%) after Avago beats April quarter estimates and makes encouraging comments about mobile, industrial, and enterprise networking demand. In addition to Avago's rivals and Cirrus Logic (previous), big winners include Fairchild (FCS +3.8%), SanDisk (SNDK +2.7%), Spreadtrum (SPRD +7.2%), and InvenSense (INVN +4.9%), as well as touchscreen controller suppliers Synaptics (SYNA +4.3%), Atmel (ATML +6.3%), and Cypress (CY +2.8%). Comment! [Tech, On the Move]
- Thursday, May 23, 1:55 PM Topeka initiates InvenSense (INVN +0.2%) at Buy and assigns a $16 price target, representing a 29% upside from yesterday's close. Analyst Suji De Silva cites the company's market leading position in motion sensing functionality. (See also: Pac Crest says INVN to gain AAPL as client) 1 Comment [Tech]
- Wednesday, May 15, 12:13 PM InvenSense (INVN +4.6%) will gain Apple as a client this year and will also be designed into Samsung's Galaxy Note 3, says Pac Crest in a note that's lifting shares. On Monday, Wedge Partners, which in the past has said checks point to an iPhone 5S design win, said initial Apple shipments could happen in Q2, and that InvenSense is part of a reference design for MediaTek's 6589 quad-core processor, something that has led to a design win with growing Chinese smartphone vendor Xiaomi. Also: InvenSense filed a fresh lawsuit against archrival STMicroelectronics (STM +1.7%) yesterday. 1 Comment [Tech, On the Move]
- Friday, May 3, 10:29 AM Heavily-shorted InvenSense (INVN +25.7%) continues shooting higher after beating FQ4 estimates. FQ1 guidance isn't great - revenue of $53M-$55M and EPS of $0.12-$0.14 vs. a consensus of $56.4M and $0.15 - but the motion sensor chipmaker also talked on its CC about a strong backlog and a solid relationship with Samsung, and didn't do anything to shoot down reports of an iPhone 5S design win. Top rival and current iPhone motion sensor supplier STMicroelectronics (STM -0.1%) is missing out on today's rally. (earlier) 1 Comment [Tech, On the Move, Earnings]

Net revenue and net income for Q4 and for FY13 both rose markedly over the prior year and the company ended its fiscal year with $200.3M in cash versus $157.8M at the end of FY2012. "We deliver[ed] above the higher end of our stated revenue outlook for Q4 [and] our customer design pipeline for FY14 continued to expand significantly across all … products," notes CEO Behrooz Abdi. - Wednesday, April 24, 12:28 PM Are wireless chip stocks decoupling from Apple? Even with Apple off slightly as bleak June quarter guidance outweighs fresh capital returns, iPhone/iPad combo chip supplier Broadcom (BRCM +6.6%) is surging thanks to a Q1 beat and strong Q2 guidance, and is helping out some peers - QCOM +1.4%, SWKS +2.6%, INVN +1.8%, SNDK +1%. During its earnings call, Broadcom, which also provides combo chips for many Samsung phones, stated mobile chip sales only fell 1.6% Q/Q in seasonally weak Q1, and forecast sequential growth for the business (Apple-dependent Cirrus Logic sure isn't doing the same). Qualcomm reports after the close. 4 Comments [Tech, Earnings, On the Move]
- Friday, March 8, 10:38 AM InvenSense (INVN +4.9%) will likely be a motion sensor supplier for the iPhone 5S, says Wedge Partners in a report that has led shares to spike higher. Apple has been relying on rival STMicroelectronics (STM +0.5%). earlier this week, InvenSense announced it had won a stay on a U.S. suit filed by STM due to progress made by InvenSense in challenging the patents asserted by STM through the USPTO. 24.5% of InvenSense's float was shorted as of Feb. 15. 2 Comments [Tech, On the Move]
