Accumulating Value Stocks: Good Any Time [view article]
enjoyed it, especially the list. Good stuff. Here ae a few I am watching: WAG, VFC, SYY, GPC and TXN. Been nibbling on all during recent downtrend. Will round out positions when everything stabalizes. ReplyAccumulating Value Stocks: Good Any Time [view article]
One can always buy in and be wrong. Its all about keeping cutting your losses quickly. The only way to do that is to have your exit strategy determined from the start. In fact, Dr. Van Tharp showed in a study done that one could only win 20% of the time and still generate a nice return in the stock market. It comes down more to your exit points keeping you always protected ,but giving room for the stock to run. ReplyAccumulating Value Stocks: Good Any Time [view article]
I don't disagree with your perspective, however the dilemma is whether to catch a falling knife or wait till the market rebounds. ReplyAbraham

It is interesting your discussion about value investing...as many members of Myinvestorsplace.com are contrarians... but it is very hard on a day that the Stock Market is down almost 700 points... We discussed Ben Graham on Myinvestorsplace.com and he bought too early... if we buy now...would we buying too early???? Let us know your opinons ReplyAccumulating Value Stocks: Good Any Time [view article]
re: GAP. It has 1 billion in debt and a neg. profit mgn. So, p/s ratio is meaningless until it is profitable. Looking at it another way, the more they sell, the more they lose. I would *not* buy now, especially in the current market environment. ReplyImperial Sugar: The Best Defense Is a Good Offense [view article]

With Lehman needing cash, they may be forced to sell their IPSU position. If they can't find a buyer to take them out of the position and are forced to sell into the market, look out below! Reply2020

Um...isn't the sugar tariff still problematic? Meanwhile...the bloom is off ethanol once drill, drill, drill takes effect. If Congress refuses to act on that, they are facing the wrath of the people...that much has been made clear recently. I don't see much changing with the sugar market or IPSU's fortunes reversing unless the tariff is somehow completely revoked. That will happen over the dead bodies of sugar beet farmers. Replyllo

If they took a larger position with sugar biofuels this company could shed its anemic growth record. Congress will have to come up with some monies although they sure threw a bunch at the financials and may keep adding to their coffers. A revamped renewable energy bill with incentives sure would help, but nuclear McCain or solar Obama will get the lions share. CZZ probably a sweeter stock.
