Italy's Economy On The Ropes (Again) [view article]
    Hi again Adan,

"but the article brings an old question back to mind for me, why is everything always predicated on growth as the only answer?"

It isn't the only answer. But to keep a long story short here, with aging populations and declining young cohorts, getting growth is the only way the younger generations are going to be able to meet the pension expectations of the older ones.

3 hour siesta? you must be talking about napoli. italia benefitted from the marshall plan in the 1950's but that was a one time shot of vitamins. italy is self-sufficient in grapes, tomatoes, olives & marble but not much else. the genius of her people has made italy great since 1867 (after centuries of suppression by austria); don't count her out.

Wow that was long. You could have summed it up by saying their economic system has not evolved into the 21st century (mom and pop stores), politics are getting in the way of economic success, and you cannot take a 3 hour siesta every day. Reply

BZF: the Fund intends to achieve exposure to Brazilian currency markets by
investing primarily in short term U.S. money market securities and forward currency
contracts and swaps. The combination of U.S. money market securities with forward
currency contracts and currency swaps is designed to create a position economically
similar to a money market security denominated in Brazilian Real. A forward currency
contract is an agreement to buy or sell a specific currency at a future date at a price set at
the time of the contract. A currency swap is an agreement between two parties to
exchange one currency for another at a future rate.

One is not "buying the Reai."

Update: we just added the NETS (Northern Trust Exchange-Traded Shares) FTSE 100 Index Fund (LDN) to the list.

Index Universe explains that "the NETS family takes a slightly different approach to country investing than the iShares – Northern Trust has opted to use locally favored indexes in many cases, while iShares, the main existing provider of country-specific ETFs, tends to use MSCI’s country indexes, which are favored by institutional investors."
