Top 50 ETFs by Revenue Per Fund [view article]
    Well,

I have to say I found it very interesting. To see some direct competitors (IVV and SPY) have very small ERs. And compare that to those that should have ERs lower (EEM) and see none of the big funds companies has a reasonable alternative. Explains the slippage on some funds. I don't really care about the total dollars, but the ERs comparison is very interesting. It also shows iShares has done a great job of pricing their market. Off to see if they are public.

Top 50 ETFs by Revenue Per Fund [view article]
Jim, with much respect for the work you have done, I have to agree with Thoroughbred. I have no problem with the ETF industry making lots of money because they offer a valuable service. I mean, how else am I going to invest in the Dow Industrials without something like DIA, which is adjusted daily for only .18. (The ER should be .10, but maybe it will come down. After all, the SPDR people are doing better with an ER of .10.)

The list I would love to see is that of investor profit per fund after expenses. What funds are at the top of that list? --during the last year and during the last 10 years? My benchmark is DIA and I'll bet several funds can beat it during the last 12 months, but not in the long run.

    Thanks

While I appreciate all the time and e-paper spent compiling the information, what does it mean? That some of the firms putting out more product are making money on that product? Reply

Excellent article. How's the performance of the Vanguard index funds versus comparable iShares (ie. tracking error from the underlying indexes)? Reply

The Party Rolls On; Until the Next Correction [view article]
Of course the party goes on and a correction will eventuate. That is looking into the rear-view mirror and saying the markets will fluctuate. If you do not have a reasoned view as to where we may be heading, it's best to shut up rather than say the most trivial and obvious. Reply

I am obliged by this amount of work and surprised by its result.
During my investigations within the total ETF's of Dutch AEX index the following could be ascertained :
During eight years the annual and preselected stocks of that AEX delivered together a Bèta of 0,62 and an Alpha of >9%

Agree that -10% can represent a good support point, speaking as technician. However, I prefer that the entire Credit Squeeze is rooted out before I move in into the market. Let that be at -10% or at -13% or at -15% drawdown. Or other alternative is when the fed offers to pitch in by making the liquidity available to the consumer (not just to the banks).

I think looking out for these fundamental changes is important in addition to looking at the charts as a technician.

    Richard,
Your post is a nifty piece of work, and very helpful as I am currently reconstructing our portfolio (who isn't?). Many thanks, it is much appreciated. Incidentally, I had no problems saving the jpg files in the enlarged format as of 10:00 am asia pac time (10 pm EST). Best Regards,

    roncohen,

Actually the clickable images are 560 pixels wide. Some browsers reduce large images (they are quite tall) and if you put your mouse over certain parts of the image you get an enlargement icon that allows you to see them it full. They are actually quite large and easy to read.
