    Goeff,
Fantastic article that I will share with my clients.
    1) Going forward, do you do a macro forecast and take into account inflation increasing?

    2) What about adding allocations to more pure play commodities such as 5% allocations to GLD, SLV, and DBA?

    3) Have You read "Strategic asset Allocation and Commodites" commissioned by Pimco and conducted by Ibbottson (March 2006)--it makes a case for much higher allocation to commodities than is traditional--greater return and lower risk.

An Optimised Portfolio Using Only ETFs (IVV, IJH, IWM, EFA, EEM, SHY, IEF, TLT, RWR, IDU, IXC, IGE) [view article]
The original concept used to advance the theory of this piece is important. What has changed since its original publication is that new EFT's have been created to both fill the gaps and negatively correlate with the basic allocation model. Therefore, investment professionals can now add carefully add alpha and further test the mpt theory. Reply

Geoff, your contribution to this discussion has been outstanding -- thank you. Two quick questions:

    1. Did you include dividends and interest payments on bonds in the calculation of returns?

    2. Would your method suggest the same allocation now as you did then?

Joab, the headline was created by us - Seeking Alpha editors - not Dave Fry. So we take responsibility there.

The question of who made Ben's bed is a worthy debate... so carry on.

    DZZ, short gold leveraged

    DGP, long gold leveraged

I think that's right, but look before you leap.

    David,
I look for your articles every day. Never a dull moment. What are the symbols for the new db leveraged gold short and long. I agree that money will be made there. Your thoughts have been making me money for the past six months. If only I hadn't listened to my broker as often.

How old are you 12 ?

Seriously, Ben inherited a JOB not a deck of cards at a poker table.

Just like every other Fed Chairmen before him !

Grow up, his screw ups (lowering rates way too early and flooding the system too soon) are HIS mistakes nobody else's.

Greeny wasn't perfect but BEN made his own bed.

Tuesday Outlook: Monoline Bailout Just a Band-aid? [view article]
$2 billion? That is supposed to guarantee AMBAC and turn the market around? LMAO. This must be the ninth bailout of CDO, CLO, CMO, SIV and SUV (jk) products in the last four months, and will buoy the market just like the others, for two or three days before investors remember there is no good news, and the only thing strengthening the dollar is a weak euro on the horizon.

I am still holding gold, energy, no financials, and the DOG and QID.

Just for an interesting update for this article, check out how the top two rated ETF's have performed relative to the bottom two since this article was written:

    finance.yahoo.com/q/bc...

TIP and DJP are up and EEM and EFA are down. Anecdotal evidence? Definitely. But notable nonetheless.

The tell will come in the bond auction markets. If the auction failures continue, we'll know that investors aren't drinking this kool-aid. Reply

Naked short selling is fraud and it will take another 1929 event to get the SEC off their butts and enforce the laws that were created in 1934 to prevent this illegal activity. Reply

IYR is real estate, not financials. Based on the share price, it "should" be IYR real estate. Reply
