- Monday, February 11, 4:07 AM Travel in blizzard-hit states in the North East is beginning to get back to normal, with just 66 U.S. flights canceled today so far compared with thousands from Friday-Sunday. However, as cities such as New York and Boston clear up, another storm across the Northern Plains was forecast to drop up to a foot of snow. Meanwhile, Hattiesburg and Petal in Mississippi were yesterday hit with a tornado that appeared to be a mile wide. (Flight tracker) Comment! [Consumer]
- Sunday, February 10, 3:39 AM Airports in the North East are slowly ramping up operations after over 5,700 U.S. flights were cancelled yesterday and on Friday mostly because of the snow storm , with another 241 canceled for today. The blizzard dropped up to 40 inches of snow, cut power to over half a million customers, and left at least nine people dead. Entergy's (ETR) Pilgrim nuclear plant in Massachusetts shut down safely after losing its outside power supply. (Flight tracker) Comment! [Energy, Consumer]
- Friday, February 8, 10:53 AM Total flight cancellations are up to 3,116 for today and another 962 for tomorrow as a major blizzard bears down on the Northeast. United (UAL +1.6%), Delta (DAL -1.7%), and JetBlue (JBLU) are the three carriers affected the most from the storm. (flight tracker) Comment! [Consumer]
- Friday, February 8, 5:09 AM Airlines have canceled at least 2,200 flights for today and another 500 for tomorrow ahead of a blizzard in the North-Eastern U.S. that's forecast to dump up to 2 1/2 feet of snow, with affected airlines including United Continental (UAL), JetBlue Airways (JBLU), Delta Air Lines (DAL) and AMR (AAMRQ.PK). Power utilities bracing for the storm include National Grid (NGG), PSE&G’s (PEG) and Connecticut Light & Power (NU). 1 Comment [Consumer, Top Stories, U.S. Economy]
- Wednesday, February 6, 11:21 AM Airline stock move higher with oil prices cooling off on supply jitters. It's welcome relief for the sector after jet fuel prices rose 5% in January alone. Gainers: UAL +3.6%, DAL +2.4%, JBLU +3.2%, LCC +2.8%, ALK +1.1%. Comment! [Consumer, On the Move]
- Tuesday, January 29, 7:43 AM More on JetBlue's (JBLU) Q4: Revenue passenger miles for the period increased 4.3% to 8.1B on a capacity increase of 4.8%. Hurricane Sandy impacted revenue by an estimated $45M. Operating expenses rose 8.3% to $87M. Looking ahead, the carrier expects capacity to increase between 5.5% and 7.5% in Q1 and for the full year. (PR) 1 Comment [Earnings, Consumer]
- Tuesday, January 29, 7:34 AM Jetblue Airways (JBLU): Q4 EPS of $0 misses by $0.02. Revenue of $1.19B (+4.2% Y/Y) misses by $0.03B. (PR) Comment! [Earnings, Breaking News]

- Thursday, January 17, 8:48 AM Airfares in focus: United Continental (UAL) pushes through its second hike in fares this year with domestic pricing up by as much as $10 this week. The probing move drew in JetBlue (JBLU) already, but analysts think that unless Southwest Airlines (LUV) jumps on board, fare could slip back lower. (Previous: Barclays bullish on airliners) Comment! [Consumer]
- Thursday, January 17, 8:18 AM Flying high? Barclays is out with a positive note on the airline sector, saying stocks could rise 20% on a mix of higher fares and lower jet fuel prices. Investors should also keep an eye on the merger front. With all signs pointing to an eventual marriage between American Airlines and US Airways, future industry consolidation/partnerships could still be on tap. A particular focus will be on Washington DC to see if rules governing foreign ownership of U.S. carriers are relaxed. Comment! [Consumer, Quick Ideas]
- Wednesday, January 16, 8:50 AM Though consumer prices remained flat in December, airline fares kept up their slow march higher to notch a 2.1% rise for the year. Analysts note the ARCA Airline Index (XAL) is up 10% YTD and could have the legs to run higher as fare hikes trickle down to the bottom lines of carriers. 1 Comment [Consumer]
- Tuesday, January 8, 8:24 AM Deutsche Bank downgrades JetBlue (JBLU) to Hold with a reduced price target of $7. JBLU -1.1% premarket. 1 Comment [Consumer, On the Move]
- Monday, December 17, 2012, 9:47 AM Airline stocks race to early gains after Dahlman Rose issues a sweeping upgrade on the sector. Advancers include JetBlue (JBLU +3.1%), United Continental (UAL +3.3%), US Airways (LCC +1.1%), and Delta Air Lines (DAL +2.3%). The bullish call from the firm: "We're going all in." 1 Comment [Consumer, On the Move]
- Monday, December 17, 2012, 6:57 AM Dahlman Rose takes a shine to the airline sector, upgrading United Continental (UAL) and Delta Air Lines (DAL) to Buy from Hold while lifting JetBlue (JBLU) to Hold from Sell. A rosy forecast on demand issued last week from the IATA is still resonating in the sector. 1 Comment [Consumer]
- Thursday, December 13, 2012, 2:34 PM The IATA's forecast for 2012 airline industry profits lit a charge under stocks in the sector for the day, but the group also sees clear skies ahead in 2013. Fuel prices should fall lower and passenger demand will increase by 4.5%, according to IATA estimates. Things are even rosier for North American carriers, with profits expected to jump 42% Y/Y to $3.4B. In the big picture, the targeted capacity cuts at airlines may finally stay to pay dividends. 1 Comment [Consumer]
