Nine borrowers (including NWL, JCI, TER) have raised $3.2B this year through convertible bonds sales - the first in half a year. "If companies are able to sell securities and investors are clamoring to buy them, it’s definitely a sign that credit markets are healing."

Sources say the $5B in aid to auto-parts suppliers will come "from a pool of money to be distributed by automakers." Last month the Original Equipment Suppliers Association said that up to 1/3 of America's 4,000 supplies face "imminent financial distress." A smattering: TRW +29%. JCI +5.6%. NOBL +57%. ARM +31%.

Johnson Controls (JCI -2.8%) withdraws 2009 guidance amid "the rapid decline in global automotive production and uncertain industry conditions." It now expects a loss in Q1, vs. consensus of $0.20/share. The partsmaker is at least the fourth in the U.S. to abandon forecasts this month. (PR)
