GE's Dismal Earnings a Warning for Other Medical Device Companies [view article]
After I submitted this post, Seeking Alpha posted GE's earnings call transcript, and I wrote the following brief update:Update: In their conference call, GE's executives said they think funding will continue to be a problem for clinics and hospitals. They also noted that the unit's first quarter wasn't as bad as the figures suggest, because accounting changes made last year look a bit stronger than it was.
Also, I've since posted a comment about health care stocks' vulnerability to a recession on my blog, which I'll submit to SA later today. Reply

Who says investing in GE is good? Look at their stock and it's recent earnings. Don't touch it now. ReplyPreparing for Dow 30 Earnings [view article]
Great stuff... I'll keep this chart as my desktop just so I can compare it as earnings come through ...Thx jegan ;-) Reply

I thought that it is interesting that New York State has passed their budget that included forcing out of state online retailers to collect tax at the time of purchase (where they obviously did not in the past). They seem to call this the "Amazon tax", but will affect all retailers. It seems that the American Booksellers Association and other retail councils want to entend this to every state to "even the playing field". This is the beginning of an interesting trend. Replyahead

It's old news !!!! ReplyUnder The Radar News - Thursday [view article]
Concerning: "Indian credit card issuer SBI, a joint venture between GE (GE) and State Bank of India, had a default rate of 16.28% as of year-end, likely the worst in the industry."Worse is relative: If you're invested in GE, that's GREAT News.

10 Pharmaceutical Stocks and Their Patent Expiration Drugs [view article]
your post would be more useful if you highlighted the fraction of cash flow that the expirations will have on an individual company basis. Just giving us drug names is nice, but practically useless.Reply

CAUTION: A just published study with dogs showed that removing their plaque still did not appreciably improve their mental performance. The neurons were still basically damaged and needed further repair. In other words, the plaque was just a band aid. See this website: www.eurekalert.org/pub... It's a shame that al the comments are about the potential stock price increase from the drug, where the real comments should be about the potential benefits to the people and the families suffering from Alzheimer's disease. I'm feeling quite virtuous right now. Several years ago I bought some Elan shares precisely because they were working on Alzheimer's. At the time I thought that someone had to take some shares off the hands of the entrepreneurial investors in order that they could move on to financing another potential biotech biggie. The amount I put in was an amount I decided I could afford to lose--which is what I half expected to do.Here we are several years later and the Elan bet seems to be panning out. Whatta world we live in! Reply
