"Led by Henry Kravis and George Roberts, we are a global alternative asset manager with $54.7 billion in AUM as of March 31, 2010 and a 34-year history of leadership, innovation and investment excellence. - Monday, November 12, 2012, 10:58 AM George Roberts will be manning a KKR booth at a Schwab sales event in Chicago next week as the once-swashbuckling P-E giant moves to become just another asset manager, launching two investment funds to be marketed to retail by Schwab. "It's all about fees and asset size now," says an industry lawyer, rather than growing carried interest - the 20% profit cut P-E firms earn when selling portfolio companies. 1 Comment [Financials]
- Wednesday, November 7, 2012, 11:10 AM An interesting development for the P-E industry, new rules in China allow that nation's insurance firms to invest in private equity funds for the first time - that's more than $100B of new money available. The new rules also allow investment into fixed income and equity products in 45 countries. Comment! [Financials]

[On the Move] - Friday, November 2, 2012, 7:52 AM Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.B) inks a deal to buy direct marketing toy and party supply company Oriental Trading. Terms were not disclosed, but the WSJ reports the price at about $500M. The sale marks a nice payday for Oriental's largest shareholder KKR, which helped bring the company out of bankruptcy 18 months ago. 1 Comment [Financials, M&A]
- Friday, October 26, 2012, 1:07 PM A 6.1% increase in the carrying value of KKR's private equity portfolio allowed about a $1.1B swing in results from last year, with Q3 Economic Net Income (ENI) of $509.9M. (see Blackstone's results; it doesn't take a lot of economic improvement for these firms to see big gains). AUM of $66.3B grew 7.8% from Q2. Shares -1.5%. Comment! [Financials, Earnings]
- Friday, October 26, 2012, 8:13 AM KKR & Co (KKR): Q3 EPS of $0.69 beats by $0.20. Revenue of $162.1M (-1.6% Y/Y) misses by $33M. (PR) Comment! [Earnings, Financials]
- Friday, October 26, 2012, 5:27 AM KKR (KKR) is struggling to reach its target of raising $8B for its new North America fund, having attracted less than $6.5B in total and under $1B since February, Bloomberg reports. KKR's difficulties stem from the under-performance of its last North American fund, which the firm closed in 2006 with $17.6B. Comment! [Financials]

- Thursday, October 25, 2012, 10:08 AM Seeing "real opportunity" in Spain's battered property and financial services sector, KKR co-founder Henry Kravis says his company is putting money to work there. Curiously, Kravis made the comments in Singapore, where his firm is opening a new office and aggressively raising money. Wilbur Ross previously. 3 Comments [Financials]
- Thursday, October 18, 2012, 12:05 PM "Full of malarkey," is Blackstone (BX +4%) President Tony James' description of the lawsuit against his firm, KKR, and others charging them with collusion. Referring to a friendly email between him and George Roberts, he says it's not just logical, but "a requirement" for the firms to work together on big deals. (earnings earlier) 2 Comments [Financials]
- Thursday, October 11, 2012, 4:38 AM "We would much rather work with you guys than against you," Blackstone (BX) President Tony James wrote to KKR co-founder George Roberts in an email. "Together we can be unstoppable but in opposition we can cost each other a lot of money," James wrote. "Agreed," replied Roberts. The exchange and other emails are evidence in a lawsuit against 10 firms alleging that they conspired to keep the cost of buyouts down. Comment! [Financials, Top Stories]
- Monday, October 1, 2012, 8:51 AM KKR agrees to buy a majority stake in Acteon Group, a provider of deepwater technical services including surveying and moving drilling rigs. Financial details were not disclosed, but sources say the deal is valued at $1.3B-$1.4B. Comment! [Energy, M&A]
- Monday, October 1, 2012, 8:33 AM Carlyle's (CG) David Rubenstein envisions a world where the retail investor can stand alongside institutions and wealthy individuals in putting money into LBO firms and other alternative investments. As P-E managers seek additional capital some are considering funds for the small guy, but one wonders how he will feel about locking up money for 10 years. 1 Comment [Financials]
- Friday, September 28, 2012, 4:10 AM Renesas (RNECY.PK) secures ¥161B ($2.1B) in syndicated two-and-a-half year loans from four Japanese banks. The cash-strapped company, the worlds largest provider of microcontroller chips used in cars, also obtains another ¥97B in financing from the banks and from its major shareholders. The loans could put paid to KKR's (KKR) hopes of buying Renesas. Comment! [Top Stories, Tech]
- Tuesday, September 25, 2012, 8:38 AM A NY AG investigation into whether private equity firms use "management fee waivers" to dodge taxes is complicated by the fact that the $150.6B NY State Retirement Fund has a long history of agreeing to the practice. "This tells us that the NY state pension fund thinks this is legal or they wouldn't be doing it," says a law professor. 1 Comment [Financials]

I'm a newbie owning KKR, but it looks like they cut their dividend by a little over 50%. Any insight for the rookie? - View all 1 replies
-
vanckzhu: It's not a regular dividend. They declare it each quarter...so it fluctuates.

Adjusted Return
LSTA lev loan index at .89 from .95 in end June. Worth looking at KKR Financial (KFN) together with appropriate S&P put protection. - View all 0 replies

Picked up a small position in KKR today. The value and yield are the most convincing arguments I've seen for this company in a year. - View all 0 replies
