- Friday, May 24, 5:08 AM KKR (KKR) and Carlyle Group (CG) are among several investment funds that are reportedly expected to bid for shares in Panasonic's (PCRFY.OB) healthcare business, for which the Japanese conglomerate hopes to raise up to $1B. Toshiba is among the strategic investors that could make an offer. The deadline for first-round bids is Monday. Comment! [Healthcare, M&A]
- Friday, April 26, 4:48 AM Onex (ONEXF.PK) might reportedly have to settle for a price of $2.5B for its Carestream Health unit, or not sell it at all, after just Bain and Thomas H. Lee Partners were left in the auction for the medical imaging company. Onex's hopes of getting up to $3.5B were dampened after the likes of Carlyle (CG) and KKR (KKR) pulled out of talks due to Carestream Health's uncertain outlook. Comment! [Healthcare, M&A]
- Monday, April 15, 3:07 AM Thermo Fisher Scientific (TMO) is reportedly closing in on a deal to acquire genetic testing equipment maker Life Technologies (LIFE) for $12.8B after the latter's board chose Thermo Fisher's offer over lower proposals from Sigma-Aldrich (SIAL), a provider of chemicals for research laboratories, and from a consortium involving private-equity firms Blackstone (BX), Carlyle Group (CG) and KKR (KKR). Thermo Fisher has offered $75 a share, 11% above Life's close of $68 on Friday. 1 Comment [Healthcare, M&A, Top Stories]
- Wednesday, April 10, 3:50 AM Thermo Fisher Scientific (TMO) reportedly made a binding offer of over $65 a share for genetic testing equipment maker Life Technologies (LIFE) ahead of a bid deadline yesterday. A consortium of private-equity firms, including Blackstone (BX), Carlyle (CG) and KKR (KKR), are also looking to make a proposal despite missing the deadline. Life's shares closed at $66.19, giving it a market cap of $11.28B. 1 Comment [Healthcare, M&A, Top Stories]
- Tuesday, April 9, 7:44 AM KKR has joined Blackstone (BX), Carlyle (CG) and other P-E firms to bid more than $12B (~$70.58/share) for Life Technologies (LIFE), NY Post reports, as suitors must make binding offers by today for the maker of laboratory equipment. Last week, Thermo Fisher (TMO) reportedly was the frontrunner with a bid of $65-$70. LIFE +1.9% premarket. Comment! [Healthcare, M&A, On the Move]
- Friday, March 29, 6:39 AM The owners of Urenco, the world's second-largest nuclear-fuel maker, are looking to sell the company in a deal that could be worth €8-12B. Potential suitors reportedly include, Canadian uranium processor Cameco (CCJ) and P-E firms Carlyle (CG), KKR, and Blackstone (BX), with the bidders expected to form consortia because of the size of the transaction. Urenco's owners comprise the U.K. and Dutch governments, and German energy utilities E.ON and RWE. 1 Comment [Energy, M&A, Top Stories]
- Friday, March 22, 3:15 PM KKR (KKR -2%) and TPG Capital are apparently no longer planning to bid for Life Technologies (LIFE -0.1%). According to reports, the company is more likely to be sold to a corporate buyer, possibly Danaher (DHR +0.6%) or Thermo Fisher Scientific (TMO -0.9%). LIFE had initially sought a private equity firm to acquire the company in a leveraged buyout, but strategic bidders emerged who may be in better position because opportunities to cut costs mean they could make a higher offer. Comment! [Healthcare, M&A, On the Move]
- Tuesday, March 12, 3:55 AM The race to acquire Life Technologies (LIFE) looks to be back in full swing again, with KKR (KKR) reportedly mulling a joint bid with other private-equity firms for the biomedical laboratory equipment maker, which has a market cap of $10.5B. Strategic suitor Thermo Fisher Scientific (TMO) may renew its interest after backing off last month, while Danaher (DHR) is also sniffing around. A group led by Blackstone (BX) and Carlyle (CG) have been rumored to be in talks. Comment! [Healthcare, M&A]
- Friday, March 8, 2:41 AM After a sales process that has dragged on for months, KKR (KKR) has reportedly agreed to acquire Gardner Denver (GDI) for $76 a share, or 2.9% above the latter's closing price of $73.85 yesterday. The deal values the industrial-pumps manufacturer at $3.74B; it would be KKR's third purchase of a company in the industrial sector in the past few years. 2 Comments [Financials, M&A, Top Stories]

Monday, March 4, 5:27 PM
KKR finally may be on the verge of buying Gardner Denver (GDI) and could announce a deal within days, Reuters reports. The two sides are said to have been negotiating a final deal price and other details over the past week, after KKR bid $75/share for GDI on Feb. 21; the board was seeking a higher price from the P-E firm.
Comment! [M&A] - Monday, March 4, 6:11 AM KKR (KKR) could be set for a hefty profit from South Korean portfolio company Oriental Brewery, with tobacco firm KT&G Corp (KTCIY.OB) reportedly considering a $3B bid for a business that KKR bought for $1.8B in 2009 from AB InBev (BUD). The Belgian company has the right to buy back Oriental Brewery, which has become South Korea's top beer maker under KKR's stewardship, within five years. Comment! [Financials, Consumer, M&A]
- Friday, February 22, 3:12 PM Gardner Denver (GDI +5.3%) moves up after posting better than expected Q4. Net earnings fell 11% Y/Y however, as the maker of air compressors and pumps was hit by lower revenue and charges associated with its attempt to sell itself. The company also lowered FY13 guidance, but shares nonetheless rose as results comfortably beat estimates, and an updraft from yesterday's $75 offer from private- equity firm KKR (KKR +2%). 1 Comment [Earnings, M&A, On the Move]
- Wednesday, February 20, 4:35 AM The chances of a sale of Life Technologies (LIFE) are reportedly diminishing following the 30% increase in the company's share price this year, which is mainly because of its January announcement about a strategic review. Life's market cap is $10.9B. One potential suitor, Thermo Fisher (TMO) has stopped pursuing a deal, while private-equity firms such as Blackstone (BX) and KKR (KKR) have made bids significantly below what Life's board would accept. Comment! [M&A]
- Wednesday, February 20, 4:17 AM KKR (KKR) is reportedly the only private-equity firm left in the auction for Gardner Denver, which has a market cap of $3.39B, with final bids due tomorrow. TPG, Onex (ONEXF.PK) and CCMP Capital Advisors have cast an eye upon the maker of industrial pumps, but they're not as interested as KKR, although they could re-enter the fray if the company's valuation changes. Comment! [Financials, M&A]
- Monday, February 4, 3:19 AM KKR (KKR) and Permira Advisers are reportedly considering their options for their 53% stake in ProSiebenSat.1 Media - which has a market cap of €5.43B - including selling their shares to another firm or on the market. Although the German broadcaster is having to cope with falling ad revenues, potential suitors could include Time Warner (TWX), Comcast (CMCSA) and News Corp (NWS). 1 Comment [Financials, Consumer, M&A]
- Thursday, January 31, 3:21 PM Gardner Denver (GDI -0.3%) has asked buyout firms to submit final offers for the company by mid-February, Reuters reports, with Advent International, KKR and the partnership of TPG Capital Management and Onex Corp. weighing final bids. Comment! [M&A]
