KMI vs. ETF Alternatives
Company Description

- Thursday, August 23, 2012, 11:27 AM Kinder Morgan (KMP, KMI) says shippers on its chronically overbooked Trans Mountain oil pipeline system between Alberta and the Pacific Coast will be limited to 33% of their hoped-for volumes in September. More shippers are seeking to move oil to the Vancouver harbor, where it can be shipped to Asia for higher returns than more traditional markets such as the U.S. Midwest. 4 Comments [Energy]
- Monday, August 20, 2012, 3:56 PM Yield hungry investors playing in the MLP space may take caution as the sector's merits rate a Barron's cover and investor roundtable discussion. Among the selections is the popular JPMorgan Alerian MLP Index ETN (AMJ), up 17% Y/Y while yielding north of 9%, and trading at a 36% premium to NAV. 6 Comments [Energy]
- Monday, August 20, 2012, 3:46 PM Analysts say Kinder Morgan Partners' (KMP -0.5%) asset sale to receive FTC approval for its El Paso acquisition removes uncertainty and allows management to focus on other things. The price KMP got for its assets was "right down the fairway" of expectations, a Raymond James analyst says, adding the El Paso deal should bring in "very transparent, low-risk organic growth." KMI +1.9%. Comment! [Energy, M&A]
- Monday, August 20, 2012, 9:02 AM Kinder Morgan Partners (KMP) will sell certain Rocky Mountains pipeline and infrastructure assets to privately held Tallgrass Energy Partners for $1.8B in cash to secure regulatory approval for its $23B acquisition of El Paso. Including debt, the deal is valued at $3.3B. Comment! [Energy, M&A]
- Thursday, August 9, 2012, 11:47 AM Kinder Morgan Partners (KMP) sold a $1.25B debt offering yesterday, following its $6.2B drop-down acquisition of Tennessee Gas Pipeline and half of El Paso Natural Gas from general partner Kinder Morgan (KMI). Janney says KMP is purchasing the assets at ~8x 2012 EBITDA, which will bump up leverage to 5.2x-5.6x debt to EBITDA, near the high end of KMP’s historical levels. 3 Comments [Energy]
- Monday, August 6, 2012, 4:19 PM Kinder Morgan Partners (KMP) will acquire 100% of Tennessee Gas Pipeline and a 50% interest in El Paso Natural Gas from Kinder Morgan (KMI) for ~$6.22B, including ~$1.8B in assumed debt at Tennessee Gas and ~$560M of proportional debt at El Paso. The moves "will generate substantial, stable cash flow to KMP and its unitholders for many years to come," KMI says. 1 Comment [Energy, M&A]
- Wednesday, July 18, 2012, 6:23 PM Kinder Morgan (KMI) CEO Richard Kinder says the volume of natural gas liquids transported in its pipelines rose 27% in Q2, but "not all is rosy in terms of volumes" because of problems Eagle Ford producers were having getting equipment where and when they need it. Also, with an 83% gain in cash available to pay dividends, KMI ups its quarterly dividend to $0.35/share from $0.30. 2 Comments [Energy]
- Wednesday, July 18, 2012, 2:05 PM Leon Cooperman doesn't expect a U.S. recession and corresponding bear market in stocks; in fact, he thinks stocks in general are underpriced and will climb. He especially likes these 10: COF, ESRX, GCI, HAL, KMI, MET, QCOM, WPI, WU and non-U.S. pick AIA Group. Better take notice: His Delivering Alpha picks a year ago look prescient now. 1 Comment [Quick Ideas]
- Friday, July 13, 2012, 1:11 PM Pipeline operator Kinder Morgan (KMI +1.1%) looks ripe for growth after its blockbuster acquisition of El Paso, lauds Citi Research. Analyst John Tysseland ups his rating on KMI to Buy from Neutral, to go along with an improved price target of $39. Comment! [Energy]
- Friday, June 15, 2012, 9:09 AM Kinder Morgan (KMI) is reinstated with a Buy rating and a $37 price target by Goldman Sachs, which cities KMI's "strong general partner cash flow outlook, which should drive double-digit dividend growth from a higher proportion of stable, fee-based natural gas pipeline assets." The firm also reinstates KMP, KMR and EPB at Neutral with respective price targets of $86, $83 and $38. 3 Comments [Energy, Quick Ideas]
- Tuesday, June 12, 2012, 11:41 AM These 20 stocks will do well no matter what, UBS says: SUN, KMI, NUE, MWV, MAS, IRM, WYNN, LEG, RAI, MO, BMY, JNJ, CINF, PBCT, SAI, PAYX, FTR, WIN, PGN, POM. These stocks boast strong dividend payouts, and "tend to provide the most consistent alpha without the need for more tactical management." 9 Comments [Quick Ideas]
- Wednesday, June 6, 2012, 10:31 AM Goldman Sachs and Carlyle Group are cashing out big chunks of their stakes in Kinder Morgan (KMI -2.8%) in the upcoming secondary offering: Goldman is selling 36.7M of its 134.8M shares, while Carlyle is selling 12.7M of its 51.2M. Goldman's KMI stake drew criticism during the El Paso purchase, as the longtime EP banker continued to do work for the target despite a substantial investment in KMI. Comment! [Energy, On the Move]
- Wednesday, June 6, 2012, 10:30 AM Goldman Sachs (GS) unloads 27% of its stake in Kinder Morgan for about $1.2B, a 3.5% discount to Tuesday's close. Goldman is the longtime banker of El Paso and drew criticism when KMI's February buyout offer of El Paso was accepted. 2 Comments [Financials]
- Wednesday, June 6, 2012, 8:29 AM Kinder Morgan (KMI) -3.3% premarket after announcing a secondary offering of 63M common shares. KMI says neither the company nor its management team will sell any shares in the offering, and it will not receive any of the offering's proceeds. 8 Comments [Energy, On the Move]
- Friday, June 1, 2012, 5:19 PM Lone Pine Capital reports a 12.9% passive stake in Kinder Morgan (KMI). Comment! [Energy]
- Thursday, May 24, 2012, 12:12 PM As Kinder Morgan (KMI -1.6%) completes its acquisition of El Paso, it now expects to see cost savings of $400M/year from the deal, up from its previous estimates of $350M in savings. KMI also expects to declare dividends of at least $1.40/share for 2012, up from its previous plan of $1.35. Comment! [Energy, M&A]

Chris DeMuth Jr.: I do not. That is just something that I do myself by hand. But here is a bit more about the $KMI warrants: http://seekingalpha.com/p/ttip.

Wilson Wang: you think it's a double yeah Why do I have this feeling that Mr. Kinder is doing this on purpose because not everyone's taking advantage. -
Wilson Wang: With a good growth on dividend, i think i can reasonably estimate the stock price in 2017. idk, i want to hear what you think of this!
