    Goldman Sachs lifts its estimates on CarMax (KMX -0.7%) with its view the late model used car category will hold up well in 2013. The forecast for 2013 EPS is raised to $2.06 from $2.02 and 2014 EPS goes to $2.36 from $2.32.

    More on CarMax's (KMX) Q3: Total used units rose 16% with more compelling credit offers on the table. On that front, CarMax Auto Finance saw its revenue increase 16% to $72.5M with managed receivable higher. The used vehicle average selling price unchanged from last year's Q3. The company now has eight of the ten superstores it planned to open in FY13 in operation. Shares +6.2% premarket. (PR)

    Goldman Sachs upgrades CarMax (KMX) to Buy with a $42 price target to go along with it. Though an argument can be made both ways, some analysts have backed CarMax as one of the companies that could see a bump with the fiscal cliff looming if consumers decide to trade down to a used automobile instead of starting afresh.

    Credit Suisse upgrades CarMax (KMX +0.3%) to Outperform from Neutral on a call tied to valuation and the potential for the growth story to pick back up for the company. The firm add $10 to its price target on KMX to take it to $42.

Pricing could be set to turn in the company's favor, with the nation's supply of cars aged one to four old about to bottom this year at 49M after being as high as 68M just four years ago. Management at CarMax, hailed by analysts for their tactics, plan to hit an expansion phase again with new store openings on tap.

    CarMax (KMX +10.7%) shares pop 10%-plus at the open, as ITG Research says the company's retail revenue growth is accelerating. KMX's used retail revenue growth is tracking up 16.7% Y/Y vs. 13.3% and same-store used unit retail sales likely are ahead of Street estimates, ITG says.

    Carmax (KMX -1.1%) plans to open 10 new stores this year and another 30 to 45 over the next three years, according to reports. The investment in new stores by the company would be more than previously anticipated.
