In the US, sales over the past few years of console games have been growing much faster than PC games.

In 2007, worldwide sales of console games was 30% more $$ than for PC games according to:
    www.boston.com/busines.../

Will it continue? Dunno. But it's a significant trend.

I agree that the PC is better than consoles to a certain point. Years ago I was a console gamer and really enjoyed it until I discovered the freedom and customization that comes with PC games. Playing with a handheld controller can be more restrictive than a mouse/keyboard combo. Plus you do have all of the benefits of easy, affordable upgrades and the ability to multitask while you play. On the other hand, consoles aren't dead especially with the fact that most consoles are playing next gen formats like HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. A console can be a 2 for 1 in that respect as most consoles are connected to a large, family size TV and can act as a home theater while the PC is more geared for a single person. Consoles are getting better at multiplayer interfaces as well, so they aren't dying. On the other hand, if I had to choose I'd still go with a PC. Reply

The console market is just like big Dinosaurs in extinction, why? because the PC can do just the same thing as a console, it can be upgrade a very low cost and its more functional, this together with devices like the Ipod make portability not a problem, so just start thinking how you are going to through your console in the garbage in the next few years. I think gaming piracy is underestimated. Requiring and selling peripherals with a game is a great way to reduce piracy. That certainly helps sales. Reply

Bargain Hunting for Japanese Stocks [view article]
I think the Nikkei will plunge another 50% or so in real terms before we hit a multi-decade bottom. However, I think this will happen sooner, rather than later:
The Nikkei has been in a bear market for almost twenty year now and if my memory is correct, not one single stockmarket on the planet experiences a bear market of more than 20 years.
When the Japanese realize that a strong Yen is actually a good thing, provided it comes with productivity increases, the market will hit bottom and embarks on a multi-decade bull market.

Hahaha!!! KNM is a great company and MGS_IV will be a hit nonetheless it will be an EXCLUSIVE to SNE so buying KNM shares because of the big Wii and XBox installed user base is laughable as no copy of that game will ever be played on such systems! Reply

18 Ways to Invest in Japan, the Land of the Rising Sun [view article]
Interesting list - I disagree with Orix, though - I think that stock could revisit its 2000 lows of $5. It's basically ridden the carry trade and the stock price correlates highly with the yen, so if the yen goes, so goes IX back down to its old price levels. Reply

Be careful Robert, there will be a huge difference between the number of games available for sale on the Wii and those that sell in sufficient quantity to make the game a success for the developer. Also, COOL is a thinly traded stock with a spread between bid and asked that is guaranteed to make the dealers a profit. Find another stock to trade, while you are still alive financially.

Wow! Clearly you know what you are talking about when it comes to dissecting companies. I am sincerely blown away at the level of detail you have bestowed upon us mere mortals. You make me feel like I have been throwing darts when deciding on what stocks I invest in. You have proven your point in that Nintendo is and will be the clear winner in the VIDEO GAME WARS of the new Millenium.
This article should be leaked to all the major news carrier's, as it is as good as any of the so called "expert's" could conjure up. You are the only person who has accuratley described what Ninntendo is doing, and how they should NOT be compared to SONY AND MICROSOFT, as Nintendo is not playing on the same field as the those two behomeths. I own both a Wii and a PS3 and they are completley different. The PS3 has awesome graphics, but it is complicated, big, loud and puts out enough heat to warm a clan of eskimos. The Wii is unassuming and a lot of fun. I can not play it for a month and go back and pick up whre I left off, the PS3 requires constant attention.
Nintendo is lean and mean and when they smell blood they go for the kill. They will not be happy until they own at least 50% of the market. Thank You so much for your hard work, and I will defintely sleep soundly tonight as all I will be hearing is the cash register ringing. I am long and all in Nintendo.
The last two days of trading in the US has been extremely bullish As it clearly shows that mutual funds are BACKING UP THE TRUCK on NINTENDO. For those of you who dont know NTDOY.PK usually trades along with Nintendo of Japan. However, in the last two days, NTDOY.PK has blazed its own path a full $1.60 ahead of Japan, on very high volume. BUY
