They should have called a Housing Support Bill and they could have got it passed easily. Or the "support our troops apple pie patriot bill". Reply

Only 2 thoughts (2 cents worth each):

    1. Alternative energy will get what it deserves: alternative money (or alternative to money).
    2. Every House member voting against bank rescue plan deserves Hoover Prize. I propose miniature apple cart, but other ideas are welcome.

Congrats to the 40% of Republicans in the House and the 33% of Democrats in the House that blocked this. This bailout plan was a bad idea, and tons of economists came out saying so. Just doing "something" for the sake of doing "something" will get you a small bounce for a few days, but won't fix anything. Forgive me for not having a ton of confidence in 'ole Hank and Ben. And the pricetag on this one was astronomical. For you Survivor fans, $700 billion is 700,000 seasons of someone winning the million dollars. Or for you PowerBall fanatics, that's winning a hundred million jackpots 7,000 times! It is an un-Godly amount that would have saddled this country with an even bigger debt than we already have. About $2,800 each for every man, woman and child in this country. And if you think we'd get any of that back --- ask yourself this: who would sell it to us taxpayers if they would make money off of it? How about we get a REAL plan, and hammer out the details in more than a weekend? Call together all the leading economists in the country and get them together in a room, not all the Wall Street bankers! Reply

No way!! The House did exactly the right thing. When the enemy is confidence, you have to do away with political aspects FIRST!

Now that it's less political, time for the meat and potatoes of actually fixing the problem.

It's not over until it's over, this will be back up later this week.

I think I would have greater faith in your commentary if you knew the difference between silicone (which is a type of rubber) and silicon (which is an element that is used to make solar cells). Reply

What are your thoughts about the US senates reluctancy to extend the tax benifits on solar energy. What is the impact from this on L.D.K isolated ? Reply

I'm not sure whether I left it out or SA did, but I meant to include a significant point about UMG. It uses a much less pure polysilicone. This is about 1/10th the cost of the high purity polysilicone used for multicrystalline wafers. This should reduce LDK's cost (increase margins). Also LDK should be able to use much of the scrap it was throwing away to help it produce UMG polysilicone wafers. The fact that this scrap no longer needs to be waste should also help margins. Reply

The analysis is missing below the line expenses (R&D, SG&A) and income tax.

The conclusion of Buy is correct, though. Most recent 2009 UBS est (after all expenses and taxes) is 5.72/shr, 7.59 2010; uses 117m shares, as must use fully diluted count.

I always wonder about why such a dynamic company like LDK is not crossing 100
but if you look at history of chinese adr's in US, there is something mysterious going on.

its as if hedge funds have been instructed not to put their money into chinese companies. Kramer also keeps on saying to invest in america and not chinese companies.

unless hedge funds come into this full steam. this stock might languish with pe of 3-4 and still will continue to underperform.

still I am like 70% of my money in LDK hoping that someday wallstreet will appreciate this. will wait till Jan 2009 before i get out of this position completely

Yep, the author dropped the ball on CPST. CPST has good technology, but they do NOT make wind turbines. They make turbines that run off of just about any flammable fuel. They are R&Ding Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) applications now, using CSP super heated air to run the turbine. This application does not apply to PV solar though. Anyway, the idea is that it is suppose to run more efficiently than the current CPS technology.
