- Wednesday, June 27, 2012, 12:34 PM Lennar's (LEN +3.9%) Q2 earnings report suggests that the housing crisis may be over says SA contributor Michael Terry. He says the trend in real estate has not only bottomed, but has "begun to crawl out of the hole" it dug for itself in 2002-2006." LEN CEO Stuart Miller concurs, noting that the 'for sale' housing market has, in fact, bottomed, and "We have commenced a slow and steady recovery process." One caveat Miller observes however: it's all very localized. Comment! [U.S. Economy]
- Wednesday, June 27, 2012, 7:55 AM More on Lennar (LEN): Q2 new orders +40% Y/Y, backlogs +61%. Gross margin of 22.5%, up 310 basis points Y/Y. "Evidence from the field suggests that the 'for sale' housing market has, in fact, bottomed and that we have commenced a slow, steady recovery process," says CEO Stuart Miller. Shares +4% premarket. XHB +2.2% premarket. Comment!
- Wednesday, June 27, 2012, 6:11 AM Lennar (LEN): Q2 EPS of $0.21 beats by $0.04. Revenue of $930.15M (+21.7% Y/Y) beats by $44.44M. (PR) Comment! [Earnings]

- Monday, June 25, 2012, 7:42 PM China Development Bank is in talks with Lennar (LEN) over a $1.7B loan - which would mark one of the largest U.S.-China real estate funding projects to date (Most similar Chinese state investments in have been in developing countries). The funds breathe new life into two delayed San Francisco projects to transform former naval bases into nearly 20,000 new housing units that might otherwise not get done. LEN +0.5% AH. (earnings preview) 3 Comments [Breaking News]
- Thursday, June 7, 2012, 10:40 AM Homebuilder stocks are getting a lift today from record low mortgage rates, with the 30-year fixed-rate dropping to 3.67% and the 15-year fixed rate declining to 2.94%. Last year at this time, the 30-year mortgage averaged 4.49% and the 15-year averaged 3.68%: (XHB +1%), (PHM +2.4%), (LEN +0.8%), (DHI +1%), TOL -6.1%, (KBH +1.4%). Comment! [On the Move, U.S. Economy]
- Tuesday, June 5, 2012, 11:01 AM Home builders add to early gains and rebound from a selloff yesterday following the decent ISM service sector print. Lennar (LEN) +4.4%, PluteGroup (PHM) +3.9%, D.R. Horton (DHI) +3.4%, M/I Homs (MHO) +4.7%, and the ITB sector ETF +2.33%. Comment! [On the Move]
- Friday, June 1, 2012, 12:27 PM Homebuilder stocks (XHB -4.8%) are crushed in the wake of today's jobs report: PHM -10.4%, LEN -7.4%, DHI -8.5%, TOL -6.1%, KBH -5.5%. Fannie Mae's Doug Duncan recalls the spring-to-summer slowdown pattern of each of the last two years: "If this pattern recurs, we expect that hopes for a meaningful housing recovery will be delayed once again." Comment! [U.S. Economy, On the Move]
- Thursday, May 17, 2012, 11:43 AM Housing stocks are having a bad day, with the Home Construction Index Fund (ITB) -3.1%, Standard Pacific (SPF) -6.9%, KB Home (KBH) -4%, PulteGroup (PHM) -5.1%, Hovnanian (HOV) -3.2% and Lennar (LEN) -3.9%. Today's weak economic data (I, II) may be pulling the stocks down following yesterday's mixed housing-starts print. Comment! [On the Move]
- Tuesday, May 15, 2012, 11:53 AM Homebuilding stocks get a lift from a positive NAHB number this morning, as the sentiment reading for this month climbed to its highest level in five years. It's important to note however, that despite the improvement in starts, home building still remains well off normal levels. Anything above 50 suggests a positive view of home building conditions, and this index hasn't had a positive reading since April 2006. Toll Brothers (TOL +2.9%), KB Home (KBH +3.7%), Lennar (LEN +3.7%), Hovnanian (HOV +5%), D R Horton (DHI _3.5%), PulteGroup (PHM +1.8%) S&P Homebuilders ETF (XHB +1.5%). 2 Comments [On the Move, U.S. Economy]
- Monday, May 14, 2012, 1:45 PM Guggenheim raises its ratings on a slew of homebuilders to Buy today, saying the sharp decrease in existing home inventories has reduced exisiting home competition to a level supportive of order growth: Lennar (LEN +0.7%), Pulte (PHM -1.1%), Ryland (RYL -0.9%), Toll Brothers (TOL -0.6%), M/I Homes (MHO +1.2%). 1 Comment [On the Move]
- Friday, May 4, 2012, 12:40 PM Maybe another canary in the coalmine for housing is Mohawk Industries (MHK +6.2%), the maker of floor-covering products soaring after strong earnings. Price increases are a theme of the earnings report - both last quarter and for the guidance: "We anticipate continued sales growth and improving margins." (PR) 9 Comments [U.S. Economy]
- Wednesday, May 2, 2012, 11:46 AM Masco (MAS +2.9%) gets a boost from an upgrade to Sector Perform on valuation at RBC Capital this morning, based on what it sees as a recovery taking place in the housing market. Other housing stocks also doing well this morning: PulteGroup (PHM +4.8%), Lennar (LEN +3.9%), DR Horton (DHI +3.5%), Toll Brothers (TOL +2.3%), KB Home (KBH +1.4%). Comment! [On the Move]
- Thursday, April 26, 2012, 12:25 PM Homebuilders get a boost from solid earnings reports out of Ryland Group (RYL +8.5%) and PulteGroup (PHM +5.7%) earlier, plus today's better than expected March Pending Home Sales number: SPDR Homebuilder ETF (XHB +0.8%), Beazer Homes (BZH +7.2%), Lennar (LEN +3.3%), Hovnanian (HOV +2.1%) and Toll Brothers (TOL +1.8%).
